BACKGROUND The fastest growing population group in the UK is the elderly, particularly those aged ≥ 80 years. The primary aim of this study was to assess if age was a determining factor for successful first dialysis through a pre-emptive angioaccess. The secondary aim was to investigate what risk factors are associated with angioaccess failure and to assess their patency and complications in th...

Surgery for hemodialysis access is the most commonly performed vascular surgical operation in the United States, predominantly because of a steady increase in the prevalence of end-stage renal disease. Multiple studies have confirmed the improved patency rate and lower infection rates for native arteriovenous fistulae compared with prosthetic arteriovenous grafts. In formulating a strategy for ...

Ischemic complications presenting as digital gangrene occurring in a patient of end-stage renal disease undergoing haemodialysis is rarely reported in literature. We report one such case of dry gangrene of a single finger in a 53 years old male undergoing haemodialysis. The condition was likely a steal phenomenon secondary to the surgical angioaccess for dialysis.

BACKGROUND Insufficient venous vasculature disallows autologous arteriovenous fistula creation. In this case an arteriovenous conduit of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) interponed between artery and vein is used for hemodialysis. Although arteriovenous graft infection is an infrequent complication, infected grafts cannot be used for hemodialysis and can cause infection, sepsis and blee...

OBJECTIVE Arteriovenous fistulae traditionally have been placed in the upper extremity. Experience with groin hemodialysis access has been discouraging because of high infection rates and associated limb amputation. We reviewed our experience with angioaccess grafts in the groin to assess safety and viability in our hemodialysis patient population. METHODS A retrospective review was performed...
