A total of 509 Anopheles Stephensi and 20 Anopheles Culicifacies mosquitoes were collected during two seasonal activity peaks (June, July, August and September) in the years 2000 and 2001, from 36 localities around Minab, Iranshahr and Kahnouj cities. The identity of specimens was confirmed using Shahgodian PAN morphological key. DNA was extracted from the head and thorax of all specimens and s...

The Bacillus laterosporus strains 921 and 615 were shown to have toxicity for larvae of the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti, Anopheles stephensi, and Culex pipiens. The larvicidal activity of B. laterosporus was associated with spores and crystalline inclusions. Purified B. laterosporus 615 crystals were highly toxic for Aedes aegypti and Anopheles stephensi.

Background & Aims: Anopheles stephensi is one of the most important malaria vectors in Hormozgan province, southern Iran. This species with high density has an effective role in malaria transmission, especially in plain and coastal areas. At present, the country malaria vector control program in areas with local transmission is using deltamethrin 5% and Bacillus thuringiensis as insecticide ...

Three media formulated from molasses and cornsteep liquor and another media based on the basal medium formulation of IPS-82 were assessed for the growth and production of insecticidal properties of B. thuringiensis H-14 .• Bacterial powders prepared from the broth cultures were assayed against the larvae of Culex pipiens and Anopheles stephensi. A standard powder of IPS-82 was included in ...

Ookinete invasion of Anopheles midgut is a critical step for malaria transmission; the parasite numbers drop drastically and practically reach a minimum during the parasite's whole life cycle. At this stage, the parasite as well as the vector undergoes immense oxidative stress. Thereafter, the vector undergoes oxidative stress at different time points as the parasite invades its tissues during ...

Background Malarious areas in Iran are close to Afghanistan and Pakistan that urge the researchers to extend their knowledge on malaria epidemiology to the neighboring countries as well. Vectorial capacity differs at species or even at population level, the first essential step is accurate identification of vectors. This study aimed to identify Anopheles species composition in selected malariou...

Zika virus is a newly emergent mosquito-borne flavivirus that has caused recent large outbreaks in the new world, leading to dramatic increases in serious disease pathology including Guillain-Barre syndrome, newborn microcephaly, and infant brain damage. Although Aedes mosquitoes are thought to be the primary mosquito species driving infection, the virus has been isolated from dozens of mosquit...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the larvicidal efficacy of different extracts of Ficus benghalensis L. against Culex quinquefasciatus Say, Aedes aegypti L. and Anopheles stephensi L. (Diptera: Culicidae). MATERIALS AND METHODS Larvicidal efficacy of the crude leaf extracts of Ficus benghalensis with three different solvents like methanol, benzene and acetone was tested against the early second, thir...

Environmental concerns have resulted in the search for environmentally friendly natural oils for use as mosquito larvacide. Methylated coconut oil has been found to be toxic to mosquito larvae. However, the use of methylated coconut oil is limited by resource constraints in rural communities in Papua New Guinea and other Pacific Island countries where coconut oil is produced by traditional meth...
