septic shock continues to be one of the leading causes of death in the intensive care units. when the shock state persists after adequate fluid resuscitation,  vasopressor therapy is required to improve and maintain adequate tissue/organ  perfusion in an attempt to improve survival and prevent the development of multiple organ dysfunction and failure. various studies have suggested that exogeno...

INTRODUCTION Although the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone has connection with various malignant tumors, there are few reports associated with advanced gastric cancer. CASE PRESENTATION We describe the case of a 63-year-old Korean male with inappropriate antidiuretic hormone syndrome due to an ectopic antidiuretic hormone-producing advanced gastric adenocarcinoma manifested with...

A 55-year-old man with schizophrenia developed water intoxication due to primary polydipsia. His manner of antidiuretic hormone secretion was investigated by water loading and infusion of hypertonic saline to clarify the form of the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion. The plasma antidiuretic hormone level, which may be involved in the occurrence of water intoxication, was ...

Plasma antidiuretic hormone concentrations were measured in a group of children with acute asthma and in a control group. Very high levels of antidiuretic hormone were found in the asthmatic group. There were no changes in other biochemical indices. If overproduction of antidiuretic hormone is sustained then fluid administration to children with severe acute asthma is potentially dangerous.

Syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) refers to the excessive release of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) resulting in water retention, dilutional hyponatremia and urinary sodium waste, and some other clinical manifestations. Causes of SIADH include many disease conditions, some medications and nicotine. The present study reports a case of psychosis followed by lung canc...

The association between infections with respiratory syncytial virus and plasma concentrations of antidiuretic hormone was assessed in 48 patients who had been admitted to hospital. The mean (SEM) concentration of antidiuretic hormone was significantly raised in patients with bronchiolitis (9.3 (1.4) ng/l) compared with non-pulmonary respiratory syncytial virus infections that cause apnoea or up...

BACKGROUND Only one case of syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone with lateral medullary syndrome has been reported so far. We report a case of lateral medullary syndrome showing syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone and analyze the pathomechanism underlying its clinical features. CASE PRESENTATION A 67-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for ...

There are at least 3 antidiuretic hormones. Arginine vasopressin is the antidiuretic hormone of most mammals, including man. This function is served by lysine vasopressin in the pig, and by arginine vasotocin in birds, reptiles and amphibians. All 3 hormones are closely related chemieally and act on the kidney in a similar inanner. Arginine vasotocin also exists in fish, in which the antidiuret...

The syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone has been described in association with a variety of diseases of the thorax, especially with intrathoracic neoplasms.' 3To our knowledge there is only one case report of mesothelioma associated with the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone.4 We describe another histologically proved case of the biphasic type o...

Background and Purpose Hyponatremia is a common complication after subarachnoid hemorrhage. In this study we investigated the relations among hyponatremia, plasma natriuretic peptides, and antidiuretic hormone concentrations after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Methods Blood samples for radioimmunoassay measurement of plasma brain natriuretic peptide-like immunoreactivity, atrial natriuretic peptide-...
