diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder affecting carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism that affects nearly 10% of the population every year. the treatment of diabetes mellitus has been confined to use of oral hypoglycemic agents and insulin, the former being reported to possess serious side effects. this leads to increasing demand for herbal products with antidiabetic factor with little s...

A series of pyrrole and pyrrolopyrimidine derivatives were examined for their in vivo antihyperglycemic activity. Compounds Ia-c,e, and IVg showed promising antihyperglycemic activity equivalent to a well-known standard antihyperglycemic drug, Glimepiride (Amaryl, 4 mg/kg). In this paper, we examine and discuss the structure-activity relationships and antihyperglycemic activity of these compounds.

Preliminary investigations on 14 plant extracts (obtained by ethanolic and aqueous extraction) identified those having high antioxidant and a significant total phenolic content. Antihyperglycemic, α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition activities were also observed. A correlation between the antihyperglycemic activity, total phenolic content and antioxidant (DPPH scavenging) activity was establ...

Eleven antidiabetic Indian medicinal plants were investigated in streptozotocin induced diabetic rat model and provided scientific validation to prove their antihyperglycemic activity. Antidiabetic principles from five plants were isolated. All the compounds isolated were evaluated for antihyperglycemic activity in streptozotocin induced diabetic rat model and activities were compared with stan...

Ayurveda refers Mimusops elengi L. for the treatment of the diabetes. Considering the traditional claim of M. elengi in management of diabetes and the possible involvement of oxidative stress in pathogenesis of diabetes, the present study was aimed to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant and in vivo antihyperglycemic property of methanolic extract of bark of M. elengi (MEMeOH). In vitro antioxidan...

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the antihyperglycemic activity of methanolic extract of Trianthema portulacastrum whole plant in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The STZ induced diabetic rats are divided into four groups of six animals each. Group I served as diabetic control, Group II diabetic rats were treated with a standard oral hypoglycaemic agent, glibenclamide (1m...
