Protein recovery under sonication treatment and autolysis, also protein hydrolysis progress during enzymatic hydrolysis (using trypsin and chymotrypsin) and autolysis (using endogenous enzymes) were investigated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Kluyveromyces marxianus. Crude protein content of dried yeast cells were 53.22% and 45.6% for S.cerevisiae and K.marxianus, respectively. After 96 hrs of...

UNLABELLED Although some morphological investigations on aged human sublingual glands (HSG) found eventual phenomena identified as autolysis and mucous extravasation, the exact meaning of these findings has not been elucidated. OBJECTIVE The aim of this work is to investigate whether acinar autolysis and mucous extravasation are related to the aging process in human sublingual glands. We also...

The growing prevalence of antibiotic-resistant infections underscores the need to discover new antibiotics and to use them with maximum effectiveness. In response to these needs, we describe a screening protocol for the discovery of autolysis-inducing agents that uses two Bacillus subtilis reporter strains, SH-536 and BAU-102. To screen chemical libraries, autolysis-inducing agents were first i...

Autolysis of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) plays a vital role in dairy processing. During cheese making, autolysis of LAB affects cheese flavor development through release of intracellular enzymes and restricts the proliferation of cells in yogurt fermentation and probiotics production. In order to explore the mechanism of autolysis, the gene for the autolytic enzymes of L. bulgaricus, N-acetylmur...

RNase and DNase activities were studied in seven fungi of the subdivisions Ascomycotina, Zygomycotina and Basidiomycotina during their autolysis, and extracellular and intracellular RNase and DNase were found. RNase specific activity reached higher levels than DNase specific activity in the culture liquid and mycelial extract, except in Aspergillus nidulans. Generally maximal RNase specific act...

Neisseria gonorrhoeae readily underwent autolysis when suspended in N-2-hydroxyethylpiperazine-N'-2-ethanesulfonic acid (HEPES) buffer at alkaline pH values. Autolysis was inhibited by the addition of Mg2+ or other divalent cations. Autolysis was also suppressed at acid pH (pH 6.0). Suspension of cells in buffer was accompanied by the hydrolysis of peptidoglycan. The rate of peptidoglycan hydro...

The aim of this work was to assess in-vitro the effect of pH and salt concentration on the rate of autolysis in L. lactis strains. Regardless autolysis variation among L. lactis strains, statistical analysis showed evidence of increase of autolysis in L. lactis under low salt concentration and acidic conditions.

To improve our understanding of the regulation of calpain activity in situ during postmortem storage, the effects of pH, temperature, and inhibitors on the autolysis and subsequent proteolytic activity of mu-calpain were studied. Calpains (mu- and m-calpain) and calpastatin were purified from bovine skeletal muscle. All autolysis experiments were conducted in the absence of substrate at differe...

Cell membrane integrity and regularity are criteria commonly used to appreciate the preservation of biological specimens in electron microscope preparations . Disruptions in the cell membrane are observed in tissues experimentally submitted to autolysis and are interpreted as an expression of the fragility of autolysed tissues during technical procedures. In liver cells, on which most of the st...
