We describe a hybrid method which combines the boundary element method (BEM) and the finite element method (FEM) to compute circuit models for layout dependent capacitances. The method can handle irregularities in the stratification of the layout of the integrated circuits (IC’s). New in the method are the models for the interface between the regions where the BEM and the FEM are applied. We sh...

In the present paper, applicability of the modified fixed grid finite element method in solution of three dimensional elasticity problems of functionally graded materials is investigated. In the non-boundary-fitted meshes, the elements are not conforming to the domain boundaries and the boundary nodes which are used in the traditional finite element method for the application of boundary condit...

in this paper, the boundary-based estimation of pressure distribution in the cardiovascular system is investigated using two dimensional flow images. the conventional methods of non-invasive estimation of pressure distribution in the cardiovascular flow domain use the differential form of governing equations. this study evaluates the advantages of using the integral form of the equations in the...

In this paper, a modification on the fixed grid finite element method is presented and used in the solution of 2D linear elastic problems. This method uses non-boundary-fitted meshes for the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Special techniques are required to apply boundary conditions on the intersection of domain boundaries and non-boundary-fitted elements. Hence, a new met...

The analysis of adhesively bonded joints started in 1938 with the closed-form model of Volkersen. The equilibrium equation of a single lap joint led to a simple governing differential equation with a simple algebraic equation. However, if there is yielding of the adhesive and/or the adherends and substantial peeling is present, a more complex model is necessary. The more complete is an analysis...

We present a numerical method, based on a coupling of finite elements and boundary elements, to solve a fluid–solid interaction problem posed in the plane. The boundary unknowns involved in our formulation are approximated by a spectral method. We provide error estimates for the Galerkin method and present numerical results that illustrate the accuracy of our scheme.

This paper is concerned with the two new boundary-type radial basis function collocation schemes, boundary knot method (BKM) and boundary particle method (BPM). The BKM is developed based on the dual reciprocity theorem, while the BKM employs the multiple reciprocity technique. Unlike the method of fundamental solution, the two methods use the non-singular general solution instead of singular f...
