BACKGROUND AND AIMS One of the major problems of all-ceramic restorations is their probable fracture under occlusal force. The aim of the present in vitro study was to compare the effect of two marginal designs (chamfer and deep chamfer) on the fracture resistance of all-ceramic restorations, CERCON. MATERIALS AND METHODS This in vitro study was carried out with single-blind experimental tech...

We propose a novel technique that significantly improves the performance of oriented chamfer matching on images with cluttered background. Different to other matching methods, which only measures how well a template fits to an edge map, we evaluate the score of the template in comparison to auxiliary contours, which we call normalizers. We utilize AdaBoost to learn a Normalized Oriented Chamfer...

Chamfer distances are widely used in image analysis and many authors have investigated the computation of optimal chamfer mask coefficients. Unfortunately, these methods are not systematized: calculations have to be conducted manually for every mask size or image anisotropy. Since image acquisition (e.g. medical imaging) can lead to discrete anisotropic grids with unpredictable anisotropy value...

AIM The objective of this laboratory investigation was to determine the effect of different preparation designs (light chamfer, deep chamfer, and shoulder) and die-making materials (stone and epoxy) on the resulting margin misfit for fiber-reinforced composite crowns using a measuring microscope. METHODS AND MATERIALS Sixty standardized FibreKor crowns were made on stone and epoxy resin dies ...

The distance transform has found many applications in image analysis. The Euclidean distance transform is computationally very intensive, and eecient discrete algorithms based on chamfer metrics are used to obtain its approximations. The chamfer metrics are selected to minimize an approximation error. In this paper, a new approach is developed to nd optimal chamfer local distances. This new app...

Fiber-reinforced composite restorations provide excellent esthetics; however, little is known regarding the influence of margin design on marginal accuracy and breaking strength for this type of crown. This study evaluated the effect of variations in tooth preparation design on the marginal accuracy and breaking strength of fiber-reinforced composite crowns. Three metal dies with a total conver...

The test mask TM is the minimum neighbourhood sufficient to extract the medial axis of any discrete shape, for a given chamfer distance mask M. We propose an arithmetical framework to study TM in the case of chamfer norms. We characterize TM for 3×3 and 5×5 chamfer norm masks, and we give an algorithm to compute the appearance radius of the vector (2, 1) in TM.

PURPOSE This in vitro study evaluated and compared the vertical marginal gap of cast and milled full coverage gold copings using two margin designs (chamfer and chamfer bevel) before and after fitting adjustments. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten impressions were made of two metal master dies (one chamfer margin, one chamfer-bevel margin) and poured twice in Type IV stone. The 20 subsequent casts wi...
