In this paper, we study dynamic commensalism model with nonmonotic functional response, density dependent birth rates on time scales and derive sufficient conditions for the permanence. We also establish the existence and uniform asymptotic stability of unique almost periodic positive solution of the model by using Lyapunov functional method.

Symbiotic interactions are indispensable for metazoan function, but their origin and evolution remain elusive. We use a controlled evolution experiment to demonstrate the emergence of novel commensal interactions between Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an initially pathogenic bacterium, and a metazoan host, Caenorhabditis elegans. We show that commensalism evolves through loss of virulence, because it ...

Flavobacterium johnsoniae CI04 was coisolated with Bacillus cereus from a root of a field-grown soybean plant in Arlington, WI, and selected as a model for studying commensalism between members of the Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroides group and B. cereus Here we report the draft genome sequence of F. johnsoniae CI04 obtained by Illumina sequencing.

Microbial ecosystems are remarkably diverse, stable, and often consist of a balanced mixture of core and peripheral species. Here we propose a conceptual model exhibiting all these emergent properties in quantitative agreement with real ecosystem data, specifically species abundance and prevalence distributions. Resource competition and metabolic commensalism drive stochastic ecosystem assembly...

Like every year, I found myself at the University of Lomé (Togo) in 2022 teaching a class on ‘Population Ecology’ to Masters' students. As part program, was describing concept commensalism, that is interactions between two species where one benefits and other experiences no net gain (Mathis & Bronstein, 2020). explained commensalism should be great interest study because it centre continuum pos...

In this issue of the Journal, Matsumoto et al. [1] asked whether human T lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) antibody status is associated with the risk of developing gastric cancer. In a cohort of 5000 patients aged 40 years who were enrolled during 1989 –1992 in an HTLV-1– endemic area, they identified 1812 subjects who underwent endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal tract before 2003. Of th...

Ecological communities comprise diverse species and their interactions. Notably, ecological and evolutionary studies have revealed that reciprocal interactions such as predator-prey, competition, and mutualism, are key drivers of community dynamics. However, there is an argument that many species interactions are asymmetric, where one species unilaterally affects another species (amensalism or ...
