Low-energy electron microscopy and microprobe diffraction are used to image and characterize corrugation in SiO(2)-supported and suspended exfoliated graphene at nanometer length scales. Diffraction line-shape analysis reveals quantitative differences in surface roughness on length scales below 20 nm which depend on film thickness and interaction with the substrate. Corrugation decreases with i...

We investigate the effect of stepped edge corrugations on the front-to-back ratio (F/B ratio) improvement for the antipodal DETSA. Three types of corrugation configurations with different combinations of slit length are investigated. The results revealed that the improvement in F/B ratio is directly related to the arrangement in corrugation configurations.

Using the differential theory of light diffraction by finite cylindrical objects, we study light transmission through a small circular aperture in a metallic screen with concentric corrugation around the nanohole. Poynting vector maps in the region below the screen show that the field enhancement compared with an unstructured aperture is obtained with corrugation lying on the entrance face of t...

The linear stability of steady flow in pipes with circular cross-section and sinusoidal axial variation in diameter is studied by finding global eigenmodes with axial wavelength commensurate with that of the wall corrugation, chosen to be equal to one pipe mean radius. The maximum peak-to-peak height of corrugation considered is approximately 8% of the mean diameter. At low corrugation amplitud...

The performance of corrugated baffles inserted in a rectangular channel heat exchanger is investigated. The fluid flows and thermal distribution are determined via numerical simulations. The working fluid has a shear thinning behavior. The influence of the baffle design is explored, we interest to the “wavy” shape. The corrugation angle of baffle (α) is changed from 0° (i.e. a straight...

In present work, comparison of three different tube bundles for particular heat exchanger is proposed. Three types are smooth, micro finned and corrugated tubes. Heat exchanger will be designed with smooth tube bundle and simulated. Micro fin and corrugation over tube is applied separately for same heat exchanger in feasible size and simulated for performance. Besides, comparison is done with h...

The low-temperature electrical resistivity of corrugated semiconductor films is theoretically considered. Nanoscale corrugation enhances the electron-electron scattering contribution to the resistivity, resulting in a stepwise resistivity development with increasing corrugation amplitude. The enhanced electron scattering is attributed to the curvature-induced potential energy that affects the m...

We investigate the performance of a simple corrugated aperture scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM) probe with various cladding metals. The probes have only one corrugation, however, they offer increased transmission over both uncorrugated probes and those with many grooves. Enhancement of light throughput results from excitation of surface plasmons at the corrugation at the core-cladd...

Stereoscopic corrugation detection in the presence of horizontal- and vertical- additive disparity noise was examined using a signal detection paradigm. Random-dot stereograms either represented a 3-D square-wave surface with various amounts of Gaussian-distributed additive disparity noise or had the same disparity values randomly redistributed. Stereoscopic detection of 2 arcmin peak amplitude...

Using Molecular Dynamics simulations of a polymer liquid flowing past flat and patterned surfaces, we investigate the influence of corrugation, wettability and pressure on slippage and friction at the solid– liquid interface. For one-dimensional, shallow, rectangular grooves, we observe a gradual crossover between the Wenzel state, where the liquid fills the grooves, and the Cassie state, where...
