SODAR stands for SOund Detection And Ranging. A SODAR uses sound pulses at a frequency of about 2kHz to detect turbulence and measure wind speeds. Turbulence in the atmosphere reflects a portion of the acoustic energy back towards the ground. The SODAR measures the strength, time delay and doppler shift of these echoes. The time delay of the echo determines the height from which the echo return...

In this paper, the Doppler shift of light is used to manipulate the change in optical path length using the classical interferometer. From which, the change in optical path length is related to the change in impact force, where finally the last of impact force can be related to the gel sheet absorption.

In past decades, there has been a growing interest in the discussion and study of using underwater acoustic channel as the physical layer for communication systems, ranging from point-to-point communications to underwater multicarrier modulation networks. A series of review papers were already available to provide a history of the development of the field until the end of the last decade. In th...

When a light beam with a transverse spatially varying phase is considered for optical remote sensing, in addition to the usual longitudinal Doppler frequency shift of the returned signal induced by the motion of the scatter along the beam axis, a new transversal Doppler shift appears associated to the motion of the scatterer in the plane perpendicular to the beam axis. We discuss here how this ...

We show that the Doppler shift on whistler mode signals from VLF transmitters may be used to infer the magnetic field of an hydromagnetic wave above the ionosphere in the magnetosphere. This inferred field can then be compared with that measured on the ground. We examine one event in detail and show the data imply that a it/2 rotation of the orientation of the wave ellipse has occurred between ...

Recently Gizon, Duvall, and Schou (2002) suggested that supergranulation has a wave-like component. In this paper I show that the same phenomenon can be observed using surface Doppler shift data, thereby confirming their observations. I am also able to measure the dispersion relation to lower wavenumbers and to extend the results for rotation and meridional flows beyond ±70 • latitude.

The longitudinal Doppler shift is a measure of hyperbolic distance. Transformations of uniform motion are determined by the Doppler shift, while its square root transforms to a uniformly accelerated frame. A time-velocity space metric is derived, by magnifying the Beltrami coordinates with the geometric time, which is similar to the one obtained by Friedmann using Einstein’s equations in which ...
