Endosulfan is an organochlorine insecticide extensively used to control pests of vegetables and fruits and is well absorbed by ingestion, inhalation and skin contact. Its toxicity, depends upon route of administration, vehicle and species and sex of animal. The present study was designed to evaluate the reproductive toxicity of sub chronic dose of endosulfan on male rats. Adult male rats were e...

Background and purpose: Myricetin as a natural flavonoids in tea and coffee, has extensive pharmacological effects. Endosulfan is mutagenic and is capable of inducing genetic damage in human blood cells. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of myricetin against DNA damage caused by endosulfan on human blood lymphocytes. Materials and methods: Blood samples after 3 h...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying oxidative and inflammatory neuronal cell death induced by endosulfan, a pesticide belonging to the chemical family of organochlorines. The cortical and hippocampal tissues derived from Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats treated with endosulfan exhibited increased intracellular accumulation of reactive oxygen species and oxida...

Endosulfan, a broad-spectrum non-systemic organochlorine (OC) pesticide is extensively used to control a wide variety of pests in agriculture, horticulture and public health programmes. Biochemical changes occurring in the metabolically active tissues of gills (GL), hepatopancreas (HP) and muscle (MU) of the penaeid shrimp, Metapenaeus monoceros (Fabricius) on exposure to two sublethal doses (4...

Microorganisms are very powerful tools for the supply of information about the toxic effects of lipophilic compounds, since an impairment of cell growth usually occurs as a result of perturbations related, in most cases, with the partition of toxicants in membranes. The thermophilic eubacterium Bacillus stearothermophilus has been used as a model system to identify alpha- and beta-endosulfan in...

Soil samples were collected from ten different locations of the Western Jordan Valley (W. J. V.) extending from Pardala (north) to Jericho city (south). The residues of Endosulfan which is the most widely used insecticides in the W. J. V. were detected using Gas Chromatography/ Mass Spectrometry (GC/ MS). The soil samples were collected from two depth levels namely 0-30 and 30-60 cm. The correl...

Contamination in milk is more critical as compared to other foods as milk is first diet given to children before they are able to digest solid food. Children have low immunity to combat diseases, so their exposure to pesticide residues is of extreme concern. Lactating animals can be exposed to pesticide residues in several ways such as contaminated feed, contaminated water or direct contact wit...

toxic effects of malathion and endosulfan to fertile chicken eggs were determined. in-jection of 1.25, 2.5, 5.0 and 10.0 mg/egg of malathion into yolk sac of fertile eggs prior to incubation caused mortality of 10.0, 30.0, 83.33 and 93.33% respectively. similar trend was observed with injection of endosulfan doses. malathion and endosulfan at 1.25 mg/egg caused no pronounced ld50 increase in mo...

The present paper deals with the effect of endosulfan on Ascorbic acid content in the alimentary canal of Heteropneustes fossilis. This fish exposed so sub lethal concentration of endosulfan for a period of one month. The results revealed that the ascorbic acid content of alimentary canal was decreased in intoxicated fishes.
