autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (alps) is a prototypic disorder of abnormal lymphocyte homeostasis. in the september 2005 issue of the iranian journal of allergy, asthma and immunology, a patient with clinical features consistent with alps was described. although the clinical presentation was in favor of alps, a precise diagnosis needed more laboratory evaluations.

objectives thus, the present study aimed to determine if fas and fasl promoter polymorphisms are associated with the clinical outcome of hbv infection. patients and methods dna samples were obtained from the infected individuals including chronic carrier (n = 50), chronic hepatitis (n = 50), cirrhosis (n = 25), naturally recovered (n = 26) and compared with those of their matched healthy contro...

The orphan nuclear receptor Nur77/N10 has recently been demonstrated to be involved in apoptosis of T cell hybridomas. We report here that chronic expression of Nur77/N10 in thymocytes of transgenic mice results in a dramatic reduction of CD4+CD8+ double-positive as well as CD4+CD8and CD4-CD8+ single-positive cell populations due to an early onset ofapoptosis. CD4-CD8double-negative and CD25+ p...

background the fas receptor/ligand system including soluble forms is the most important apoptotic initiator in the liver. dysregulation of this pathway may contribute to abnormal cell proliferation and cell death and is regarded as one of the mechanisms preventing the immune system from rejecting the tumor cells. objectives to analyze the role of fas system fas/ fas ligand (fas/ fasl) in the mu...

PURPOSE To determine whether the FAS-mediated apoptosis pathway becomes activated in the retina after retinal detachment and to investigate the temporal relationship between the activation of the FAS-pathway and the intrinsic apoptosis pathway involving caspase-9 and cytochrome c. METHODS Experimental retinal detachments were created in Brown-Norway rats by injecting 10% hyaluronic acid into ...

The Fas cell surface receptor induces apoptosis upon receptor oligomerization. We have identified a novel signaling protein, termed Daxx, that binds specifically to the Fas death domain. Overexpression of Daxx enhances Fas-mediated apoptosis and activates the Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathway. A C-terminal portion of Daxx interacts with the Fas death domain, while a different region activates...

In this study, we examined the role of Fas apoptotic inhibitory molecule 2 (Faim2), an inhibitor of the Fas signaling pathway, and its regulation by stress kinase signaling during Fas-mediated apoptosis of 661W cells, an immortalized photoreceptor-like cell line Treatment of 661W cells with a Fas-activating antibody led to increased levels of Faim2. Both ERK and JNK stress kinase pathways were ...

A new fatty acid synthase off-loading domain. Fatty (FAS) usually releases its products by hydrolysis or transesterification. Here, an α-oxoamine domain is identified in a cyanobacterial type I FAS. This the acyl chain through condensation with L-serine, offering novel pathway to α-amino ketones that share similarities sphingolipid precursors. More information can be found Research Article A. Background: The First apoptosis signal (FAS) and First apoptosis signal ligand (FASL) genes initiate the apoptosis pathway, playing a central role in the tumor growth and metastasis. Gene polymorphisms including -1377 G/A in the promoter region of FAS and -844 C/T in the promoter region of FASL have shown to change the transcription activities of these genes. Methods: In this study we evalua...
