Fractures of long bones are commonly treated with intramedullary (IM) nails and they have been shown to have a very high success rate. Recently we have concerns with the use of the newer IM nailing systems, that uses longer cross screws, which have been developed with variation in implant designs. We believe that the newer implants provide less fracture stability, due to decreased stiffness of ...

Intramedullary nailing is the accepted treatment of femoral and tibial shaft fractures. Improvements in surgical techniques and implant designs have extended indications for nailing to metaphyseal fractures of the proximal tibia, distal tibia and the distal femur. Malalignment can still occur with intramedullary nailing of these fractures. Among many techniques that have been described, the use...

OBJECTIVE Intramedullary nailing of nonarticular proximal tibia fractures can be affected by bone density resulting in loss of stability, fixation, and malalignment in osteopenic bone. This study was designed to quantify the biomechanical effects of augmenting proximal screws with cement in intramedullary nailing of high proximal third tibial fractures. DESIGN In vitro biomechanical study usi...

Metacarpal and phalangeal shaft fracture fixation can be achieved by closed IM nailing. This technique provides sufficient stability to commence early unsupported joint motion and minimize soft-tissue irritation and scar formation. Stability is enhanced by proximal nail locking; a measure that extends the indications to spiral and comminuted fractures. The surgical technique is simple but requi...

Abstract A landslide is a geological event involving wide range of ground motions that leads to the collapse soil slope. The stabilization these slopes done by constructing retaining walls withstand lateral pressure. These are costly as well it difficult construct they require excavation for base or bottom slab. One many new solutions slope nailing built strengthening steep driving reinforcemen...

INTRODUCTION Simultaneous radius and ulna fractures are common in adults and generally osteosynthesis with plating is the treatment of choice. Nailing of such fractures is infrequently advocated. We present our unique technique of radius ulna nailing in adults to achieve closed reduction and early predictable union with minimal or no complications. CASE REPORT Case 1: 22 year old male with mi...

Abstract In the paper numerical modelling of ensuring slope stability and their analysing with using different methods are presented. We have designed cutting walls earth nails anchors securing for ensuring. The calculate mechanism failure process reinforced slopes were studied stability. nailing significantly increased level Spencer method. Increasing nail or length improved slopes. exhibited ...

An unicondylar fracture of the femur is uncommon and of the medial condyle more so. Open reduction and internal fixation of these fractures is most commonly performed with screws or plate and screws. Secure bone fixation is compromised by osteoporosis in elderly patients; additional measures may be required. We report the case of an elderly osteoporotic patient with a medial condyle fracture no...

BACKGROUND The incidence of distal femur fracture in the elderly has been increasing recently, and commonly occurs with osteoporosis. Retrograde intramedullary nailing has been considered a good surgical option for distal femur fracture. The purpose of the present study was to present our surgical results with retrograde intramedullary nailing for distal femur fractures with osteoporosis. MET...
