The cellulase enzyme production is a key issue in the enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic materials. Since fungal morphology influences the productivity of fungal fermentations, it is of major importance to well know the fungal behavior during culture for cellulase production. In this work, the influence of medium supplementation, with different buffer systems at two different concentration...

Human fungal diseases are largely a 20th and 21st century’s phenomenon. Due to use of corticosteroids and antibacterial drug, medical developmenta are associated with increased risk for number of fungal disease. These nosocomial developments in invasive mycosis were paralleled over the last two decades by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pandemic, which has resulted in an even larger numb...

BACKGROUND The filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger is a widely used strain in a broad range of industrial processes from food to pharmaceutical industry. One of the most intriguing and often uncontrollable characteristics of this filamentous organism is its complex morphology, ranging from dense spherical pellets to viscous mycelia depending on culture conditions. Optimal productivity correlat...

The use of filamentous fungi for the production of commercially important products is old but keeps increasing during the last decades. New classes of compounds are being added in the list of products of fungal fermentations as a result of progress in methodologies and applications of biotechnology. Fungi are morphologically complex organisms that differ in structure throughout their life cycle...

The filamentous fungus A. niger is a widely used strain in a broad range of industrial processes from food to pharmaceutical industry. One of the most intriguing and often uncontrollable characteristics of this filamentous organism is its complex morphology. It ranges from dense spherical pellets to viscous mycelia. Various process parameters and ingredients are known to influence fungal morpho...

The morphological optimization of Trichoderma harzianum was carried out using several surfactants to achieve increased cellulase production. Addition of the surfactants to the culture medium successfully modified the fungal morphology from an aggregated form to a dispersed form. Optimization of the fungal morphology increased cellulase activity up to 177%. The morphologically optimized conditio...

Primary pulmonary sporotrichosis is a rare disease. Comstock and Wolson (1975) were able to trace approximately 30 such cases. We report a further case; to our knowledge, the various stages in the development of sporotrichosis, from a cigar body to the mature asteroid body with radiations which were present in our case, have not been so well demonstrated in a single case.
