The person-to-person transmission of the hepatitis A virus primarily occurs in enclosed spaces, particularly in the presence of inadequate hygiene conditions and a high proportion of susceptible individuals. Thus, intimate family contact stands out as a risk factor for HAV infection dissemination. The present study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of household HAV transmission. Blood samples we...

The genome of hepatitis A virus (HAV) was reverse transcribed into cDNA and molecularly cloned. cDNA clones coding for the capsid protein VP1 that carries the major HAV antigen were cloned into the expression vector pUR290 and expressed in Escherichia coli. The recombinant fusion protein reacted in an immunoblot with rabbit anti-HAV serum, suggesting that it possesses HAV antigenicity.

This retrospective study compares the clinical features, laboratory profile and complications of anti HAV IgM positive acute viral hepatitis A in 138 children between 1-15 year (1-5 year: n=31; 5-10 year: n=85; and 10-15 year: n=22). We found that older children presented with HAV (hepatitis A virus) infection with more atypical manifestations (ascites and splenomegaly) and complications.

We describe a case of acute liver failure caused by echovirus 25 (E25) in a previously healthy 2-year-old boy. Initial serological studies were consistent with hepatitis A virus (HAV), with prozone phenomenon. The similarity of E25 to HAV may obscure accurate diagnosis in some cases of hepatitis.

Viral hepatitis is the most common cause of liver disease in the world. In the past 30 years, highly effective vaccines have become available for two of the five hepatitis viruses, and where implemented, vaccination has become a key component of hepatitis prevention. To provide a current review and critical analysis of the viral hepatitis, A (HAV) and B (HBV) prevention by immunization has be...
