This is an Open distribution, Abstract – Interactions within the food chain are essential to ecosystem ecology. At the same time, very little is known of the trophic relationships between Heteroptera and zooplankton. The aim of this study was to examine the community structure of water bugs in the littoral zone of shallow lakes and their impact on crustacean zooplankton communities. A study on ...

Neopoliocoris nom. n., a new substitute name is proposed for Poliocoris Slater, 1994 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Rhyparochromidae), preoccupied by Poliocoris Kirkaldy, 1910 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae). A new combination, Neopoliocorisumbrosus (Slater, 1994), comb. n. is proposed for Poliocorisumbrosus Slater, 1994.

Rusingeria nom. nov. is established as a new substitute name for Usingeria Coetzee & Segerman, 1992 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cimicidae), which is junior homonym of Usingeria Schouteden, 1952 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Aradidae). The following new combination is proposed: Rusingeria transvaalensis (Coetzee & Segerman, 1992), comb. nov., for Usingeria transvaalensis Coetzee & Segerman, 1992.

Using the fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), the presence of (TTAGG)n telomeric sequence was detected in the chromosomes of Lethocerus patruelis (Stål, 1854) belonging to the family Belostomatidae (Heteroptera: Nepomorpha). This sequence was exclusively present at the ends of chromosomes in this species. This is the first evidence of the insect-type TTAGG telomeric repeats in Heteroptera.

Residents of Vietnam living in areas with water shortages and/or poor tap water maintain water storage containers, such as jars, in and around their domiciles in order to store water used in daily life. Although these water jars are known to be important breeding sources of the Aedes mosquito, use of chemical larvicides in such containers is legally prohibited in Vietnam. In this study, we iden...

The structure of the juvenile hormone (JH) in the suborder Heteroptera, order Hemiptera, has been known for a very long time to be different from the JH of other orders, but the structure has been a matter of controversy. The structure was first elucidated by an unprecedented approach involving the screening of a JH molecular library. The novel Heteroptera-specific JH (JHSB(3)) is a new categor...

The true bugs (Insecta: Heteroptera) are one of the most important insects which included several pest and beneficial species (predators and parasitoids) and therefore have important role in agroecosystems. The fauna of aquatic and semi-aquatic Heteroptera was studied in paddy fields and around aquatic ecosystems in some regions of Iran through 2004-2009. Totally 58 species from 14 families inc...

Coleoptera and Heteroptera associated with aquatic environments were studied at Berisso, near Rio de La Plata estuary (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina). Four waterbodies were characterized and compared: artificial pond, shallow pool, stream and artificial channel. Sampling was done twice a month, with a round sieve, for 12 months (April 1999 to April 2000). Sampling was quantified using a disc...

BACKGROUND The Heteroptera, or true bugs, forms one of the major insect groups with respect to the very diverse habitat preferences, including both aquatic and terrestrial species, as well as a variety of feeding types. The first comprehensive inventory of the Heteroptera at Komaba Campus of the University of Tokyo, or an urban green space in the center of the Tokyo Metropolis, Japan, was condu...
