BACKGROUND Humeral retroversion angles determined by previous techniques are varied and/or biased by morphologic variations of the proximal and distal humerus, and their validity should be revisited. To overcome the limitations of previous studies associated with 2-dimensional (2D) images and the reference axes, a 3-dimensional (3D) measurement of humeral retroversion is required. However, comp...

we aimed to analyze the range of motion (rom) and internal rotation (ir) and external rotation (er) isokinetic strength according to humeral retroversion of the dominant shoulder.we included 40 elite baseball players in korea (obp group: n=20 players with careers spanning >10 years, age: 19.37±2.21 years, height: 181.00±5.41 cm, weight: 84.58±7.85 kg; bbp group: n=20 players with careers spanni...

We undertook a prospective MRI study to measure the retroversion of the humeral head in 33 consecutive infants with a mean age of 1 year 10 months (3 months to 7 years 4 months) who had an obstetric brachial plexus lesion (OBPL). According to a standardised MRI protocol both shoulders and humeral condyles were examined and the shape of the glenoid and humeral retroversion determined. The mean h...

The throwing shoulder in pitchers frequently exhibits a paradox of glenohumeral joint motion, in which excessive external rotation is present at the expense of decreased internal rotation. The object of this study was to determine the role of humeral head retroversion in relation to increased glenohumeral external rotation. Glenohumeral joint range of motion and laxity along with humeral head a...

BACKGROUND The most common sequela of neonatal brachial plexus palsy is an internal rotation contracture of the shoulder that impairs function and leads to skeletal deformation of the glenohumeral joint. Treatment options include release, transfers, and humeral osteotomy, all ultimately striving for better function through increased external rotation. Prior studies have shown that neonatal brac...

Restoration of joint stability during total shoulder arthroplasty can be challenging in the face of severe glenoid retroversion. A novel technique of humeral head component anterior-offsetting has been proposed to address posterior instability. We evaluated the biomechanical benefits of this technique in cadaveric specimens. Total shoulder arthroplasty was performed in 14 cadaveric shoulders fr...

OBJECTIVE To obtain anatomical data on intertubercular sulcus of humerus, evaluate the correlation between intertubercular sulcus and retroversion angle of humeral head, to guide the positioning of torsion angle of prosthesis during total shoulder arthroplasty and provide references for shoulder prosthesis design. METHODS Using a Siemens Ultrahigh speed 64- rows multi-slices spiral CT scanner...

Background: Managing posterior glenoid wear and retroversion remains a challenge in shoulder arthroplasty.Correcting glenoid version through asymmetric reaming (AR) with placement of a standard glenoid component and theuse of posteriorly augmented glenoid (PAG) components are two methods used to address this problem. Our objectiveis to report the radiographic outcomes of patie...

We measured torsion of the humeral head in 38 patients (40 shoulders) with recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder (RADS) and in 40 normal subjects. We found a reduced mean retroversion in the patients with RADS at 4.3 +/- 10.56 degrees (17 degrees anteversion to 32 degrees retroversion) as compared with 16.1 +/- 11.07 degrees in the control group (0 degrees to 49 degrees) (p = 0.0001). ...
