Although the lung is the most common metastatic site for cancer cells, biologic mechanisms regulating lung metastasis are not fully understood. Using heterotopic and intravenous injection models of lung metastasis in mice, we found that IL5, a cytokine involved in allergic and infectious diseases, facilitates metastatic colonization through recruitment of sentinel eosinophils and regulation of ...

The cyclic peptide AF17121 is a library-derived antagonist for human interleukin-5 (IL5) receptor alpha (IL5Ralpha) and inhibits IL5 activity. Our previous results have demonstrated that the sixth arginine residue of the peptide is crucial for the inhibitory effect and that several acidic residues in the N- and C-terminal regions also make a contribution, although to a lesser extent (Ruchala, P...

A 59 year old man is presented with a diagnosis of dermatitis herpetiformis. Duodenal and skin biopsy specimens from blisters of both recent and late onset were collected before treatment. Electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridisation were performed to analyse the presence of activated eosinophils and the local synthesis of interleukin 5 (IL5). Parallel state of eosinophi...

We study Kuzmin’s conjecture on the index of nilpotency for the variety N il5 of associative nil-algebras of degree 5. Due to Vaughan-Lee [11] the problem is reduced to that for k-generator N il5-superalgebras, where k ≤ 5. We confirm Kuzmin’s conjecture for 2-generator superalgebras proving that they are nilpotent of degree 15.

BACKGROUND Pimecrolimus is a calcineurin inhibitor that inhibits T cell and mast cell activation and effectively treats atopic dermatitis. However, its effects on eosinophils, a cell type implicated in allergic disease pathology, are unknown. Therefore, we examined the effects of pimecrolimus on eosinophil superoxide anion production, degranulation and survival. METHODS Purified eosinophils f...

Airway inflammation is considered to be the primary component contributing to the heterogeneity and severity of airway disorders. Therapeutic efficacies of diverse novel biologics targeting the inflammatory pathways are under investigation. One such target is IL-5, a type-1 cytokine that is central to the initiation and sustenance of eosinophilic airway inflammation. Over the past decade, anti-...

BACKGROUND The immunosuppression and immune dysregulation that follows severe injury includes type 2 immune responses manifested by elevations in interleukin (IL) 4, IL5, and IL13 early after injury. We hypothesized that IL33, an alarmin released early after tissue injury and a known regulator of type 2 immunity, contributes to the early type 2 immune responses after systemic injury. METHODS ...

UNLABELLED Eosinophilic nasosinusal polyposis is a chronic inflammatory infection with elevated infiltration of eosinophils, which presents high rate of recurrence after surgical treatment. The continuous inflammatory process that leads to the formation of polyps requires constant clinical treatment. Contributing to the maintenance of eosinophilia are cytokines IL5 (interleukin-5) and GM-CSF (g...
