"This paper analyses whether the basic monocentric model of urban structure and commuting explains actual commuting in Europe, i.e. The Netherlands. As in the USA much wasteful commuting is established. The basic model has a low degree of explanatory power. In order to get more in line with actual commuting, the paper elaborates two alternatives to the basic model. Besides a deconcentrated mode...

We used participant-produced photography to investigate everyday commuting practices in Cambridge, UK. Photovoice served as an observational method for producing ethnographically rich data. A total of 19 participants produced over 500 photos about their journeys to and from work and took part in photo-elicitation interviews. Three themes emerged. First, many images depicted 'well-being' in comm...

At city level, personal monitoring is the best way to assess people's exposure. However, it is usually estimated from a few monitoring stations. Our aim was to determine the exposure to black carbon (BC) and BC dose for 45 schoolchildren with portable microaethalometers and to evaluate the relationship between personal monitoring and fixed stations at schools (indoor and outdoor) and in an urba...

In this paper we study the existence of commuting regular elements, verifying the notion left (right) commuting regular elements and its properties in the groupoid G(n). Also we show that G(n) contains commuting regular subsemigroup and give a necessary and sufficient condition for the groupoid G(n) to be commuting regular.

in this paper we introduce the construction of free profinite products of profinite groups withcommuting subgroups. we study a particular case: the proper free profinite products of profinite groups with commuting subgroups. we prove some conditions for a free profinite product of profinite groups with commuting subgroups to be proper. we derive some consequences. we also compute profinite comp...

The odderon equation is studied in terms of the variable suggested by the modular invariance of the 3 Reggeon system. Odderon charge is identified with the cross-product of three conformal spins. A complete set of commuting operators: ĥ2 and q̂ is diagonalized and quantization conditions for eigenvalues of the odderon charge q̂ are solved for arbitrary conformal weigth h. High altitude exposure is often accompanied by weight loss. Postulated mechanisms are a reduction of nutritional energy intake, a reduction of intestinal energy uptake from impaired intestinal function and increased energy expenditure. Beyond the field of altitude, there are good reasons for renewed interest in the relationship between hypoxia and energy balance. The increasing prevalence of ob...

"This paper evaluates the influence of residential density on commuting behavior across U.S. cities while controlling for available opportunities, the technology of transportation infrastructure, and individual socio-economic and demographic characteristics. The measures of metropolitan and local density are addressed separately.... Regressions are conducted to predict commuting time, speed, an...
