It has been reported that CXCL12 binding to CXCR4 induces several intracellular signaling pathways, and enhances survival, proliferation, and migration of malignant cells. Herein we examined the effects of anti-estrogen tamoxifen and anti-allergic tranilast drugs as a single or in combination on invasion by two in vitro invasion assays, wound-healing and matrigel invasion on MCF-7 and MDA-MB-23...

Background and Objective: Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy. The most common well-differentiated form of thyroid cancer is papillary carcinoma (PTC). Few studies on determining the role of CD10 in PTC prognosis have been performed, furthermore they have been controversial. This study was designed to determine the correlation of CD10 expression with age, gender, tumor size, ...

Background: It seems that Vinca. herbacea has an anti-tumor effect. Here, the immunotherapeutic effect of this compound is assessed against human ovarian cancer (SKOV3) cells because of the high incidence of this tumor in women. Materials and Methods: The cytotoxic activity of V. herbacea extract against human ovarian cancer (SKOV3) cells was determined by MTT assay. The apoptosis-inducing pote...

A new model for cluster growth is introduced. The model is built with a long time memory which is similar to the one found in cluster growth in disordered media. The model, as a function of its parameter, interpolates between Eden growth, Invasion Percolation-like growth and has a behavior similar to self avoiding walks in another limit.

We show that when selection is extreme-the fittest strategy always reproduces or is imitated-the unequivalence between the possible evolutionary game scenarios in finite and infinite populations resolves, in the sense that the three generic outcomes-dominance, coexistence, and mutual exclusion-emerge in well-mixed populations of any size. We consider the simplest setting of a 2-player-2-strateg...

Soil microbial communities are one of the multiple factors that facilitate or resist plant invasion. Regional and biogeographic studies help to determine how soil communities and the processes mediated by soil microbes are linked to other mechanisms of invasion. Both the success of plant invasions and their impacts are profoundly influenced by a wide range of soil communities and the soil proce...

In this issue of Molecular Cell, Ward et al. (2010) identify two genes whose products act redundantly to clear Rad51 from DNA after successful strand invasion, thereby enabling the downstream events of homologous recombination to go smoothly.

Recent advances in understanding the complex biology of the microenvironment that underlies tumor invasion and migration have revealed novel and promising therapeutic targets. Pharmacological blockade of intra- and extracellular signaling events that regulate migration and survival of multiple cell types may disrupt the host-tumor conspiracy that allows escape from normal developmental regulation.
