zinc is the first modelling language which supports solver and technique independence. this means that a high level conceptual model can be automatically mapped into an appropriate low level design model for a specific solver or technique. to date, zinc uses three different techniques to solve a model: constraint programming (cp), local search (ls), and mixed integer programming (mip). in this ...

Constraint integer programming (CIP) is a novel paradigm which integrates constraint programming (CP), mixed integer programming (MIP), and satisfiability (SAT) modeling and solving techniques. In this paper we discuss the software framework and solver SCIP (Solving Constraint Integer Programs), which is free for academic and non-commercial use and can be downloaded in source code. This paper g...

W describe a simple process for generating numerically safe cutting planes using floating-point arithmetic and the mixed-integer rounding procedure. Applying this method to the rows of the simplex tableau permits the generation of Gomory mixed-integer cuts that are guaranteed to be satisfied by all feasible solutions to a mixed-integer programming problem (MIP). We report on tests with the MIPL...

In this paper, a robust reconfiguration approach based on Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) is proposed to minimize loss in distribution systems. A Depth-First Search (DFS) algorithm to enumerate possible loops provides radiality constraint. This provides a general solution to the radiality constraint for distribution system reconfiguration/expansion problems. Still, imprecision and ambiguity in ...

We consider Simultaneous Balancing and Scheduling of Flexible Mixed Model Assembly Lines with Sequence-Dependent Setup Times (SBSFMMAL-SDST). We propose alternate Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) and Constraint Programming (CP) formulations. Our experiments show that while the MIP models could not solve relatively small instances, the CP approach seems more promising.

A design problem of cross-docking distribution networks is addressed as a new research area in logistics management. This paper presents a new mathematical model for the location of cross-docking facilities and vehicle routing scheduling problems in distribution networks. For this purpose, a two-phase mixed-integer programming (MIP) is formulated. Then, a new heuristic-based simulated annealing...

This article introduces constraint integer programming (CIP), which is a novel way to combine constraint programming (CP) and mixed integer programming (MIP) methodologies. CIP is a generalization of MIP that supports the notion of general constraints as in CP. This approach is supported by the CIP framework SCIP, which also integrates techniques from SAT solving. SCIP is available in source co...

Here, we consider single vendor-buyer model with multi-product and multi-customer and multi-facility location-production-distribution problem. It is assumed that the players of the supply chain are coordinated by sharing information. Vendor manufactures produce different products at different plants with limited capacities and then distribute the products to the consumers according to determini...

Constraint Integer Programming (CIP) is a generalization of mixed-integer programming (MIP) in the direction of constraint programming (CP) allowing the inference techniques that have traditionally been the core of CP to be integrated with the problem solving techniques that form the core of complete MIP solvers. In this paper, we investigate the application of CIP to scheduling problems that r...

MOTIVATION Assembling genomes from short read data has become increasingly popular, but the problem remains computationally challenging especially for larger genomes. We study the scaffolding phase of sequence assembly where preassembled contigs are ordered based on mate pair data. RESULTS We present MIP Scaffolder that divides the scaffolding problem into smaller subproblems and solves these...
