The number of vertices missed by a maximum matching in a graph G is the multiplicity of zero as a root of the matchings polynomial μ(G,x) of G, and hence many results in matching theory can be expressed in terms of this multiplicity. Thus, if mult(θ,G) denotes the multiplicity of θ as a zero of μ(G,x), then Gallai’s lemma is equivalent to the assertion that if mult(θ,G\u) < mult(θ,G) for each v...

The NK cell-activating receptor NKG2D interacts with three different cellular ligands, all of which are regulated by mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV). We set out to define the viral gene product regulating murine UL16-binding protein-like transcript (MULT)-1, a newly described NKG2D ligand. We show that MCMV infection strongly induces MULT-1 gene expression, but surface expression of this glycoprot...

A functional B-cell receptor (BCR) is critical for survival of normal B-cells, but whether it plays a comparable role in B-cell malignancy is as yet not fully delineated. Typical Hairy Cell Leukemia (HCL) is a rare B-cell tumor, and unique in expressing multiple surface immunoglobulin (sIg) isotypes on individual tumor cells (mult-HCL), to raise questions as to their functional relevance. Typic...

Direct-sequence code-division mult ip le access (DS-CDMA) is a popular wireless technology. in DS-CDMA communications, all of the users’ signals overlap in t ime and frequency and cause mutual interference. The conventional DS-CDMA detector fo l lows a single-user detection strategy in which each user is detected separately w i thou t regard for the other users. A better strategy is mult i-user...

We establish the non-existence of a universal Hadamard gate for arbitrary unknown qubits, by considering two different principles; namely, no-superluminal signalling and non-increase of entanglement under LOCC. It is also shown that these principles are not violated if and only if the qubit states are of the special form obtained in our recent work [IJQI (in press), quant-ph/0505068].

Transferring knowledge from a source domain to another domain is useful, especially when gathering new data is very expensive and time-consuming. Deep networks have been well-studied for question answering tasks in recent years; however, no prominent research for transfer learning through deep neural networks exists in the question answering field. In this paper, two main methods (INIT and MULT...

Phylogenetic signal is the tendency for closely related species to display similar trait values due to their common ancestry. Several methods have been developed for quantifying phylogenetic signal in univariate traits and for sets of traits treated simultaneously, and the statistical properties of these approaches have been extensively studied. However, methods for assessing phylogenetic signa...
