Necrotic enteritis has until recently been considered an infections disease of swine caused by the micro-organism Salmonella eholeraesuis. Lately, however, the relation of swine nutrition to the development of this disease has been given prominent attention. The results of investigations now in progress in different sections of the country may clarify the question of the cause of the disease. N...
NetB (necrotic enteritis toxin B) is a recently identified β-pore-forming toxin produced by Clostridium perfringens. This toxin has been shown to play a major role in avian necrotic enteritis. In recent years, a dramatic increase in necrotic enteritis has been observed, especially in countries where the use of antimicrobial growth promoters in animal feedstuffs has been banned. The aim of this ...
A novel toxin, NetB, has recently been identified in virulent avian Clostridium perfringens isolates and shown to be an essential virulence factor in a clinical necrotic enteritis isolate. To assess whether NetB is more generally associated with avian necrotic enteritis isolates we have screened a range of C. perfringens strains from geographically diverse locations for both the presence and ex...
background and objectives: clostridium perfringens is more prevalent type of clostridia genus isolated from the intestinal tract of ostrich ( struthio camelus ). necrotic enteritis (ne) is a potentially fatal gastrointestinal (gi) disease of poultry and other avian species, which produces marked destruction of intestinal lining in digestive tract caused by c. perfringens . pathogenicity and les...
Comparison of the Effects Antibiotic Alternative Feed Additives on Prevention Subclinical Necrotic Enteritis in Broilers
Necrotic enteritis toxin B (NetB) is a β-pore-forming toxin produced by Clostridium perfringens and has been identified as a key virulence factor in the pathogenesis of avian necrotic enteritis, a disease causing significant economic damage to the poultry industry worldwide. In this study, site-directed mutagenesis was used to identify amino acids that play a role in NetB oligomerisation and po...
Extensive use of antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) in food animals has been questioned due to the globally increasing problem of antibiotic resistance. For the poultry industry, digestive health management following AGP withdrawal in Europe has been a challenge, especially the control of necrotic enteritis. Much research work has focused on gut health in commercial broiler chicken husbandry. U...
Clostridium perfringens strain LLY_N11, a commensal bacterium, which previously induced necrotic enteritis in an experimental study, was isolated from the intestine of a young healthy chicken. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of this strain, which may provide a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in necrotic enteritis pathogenesis.
