BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK In recent years, the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis has been improved by Real-time PCR assays. In this study we compared the performances of two Real-time PCRs (FRET and TaqMan protocols) already described in the literature, and one nested-PCR, currently used in our laboratory for the molecular diagnosis of toxoplasmosis. METHODS We evaluated the sensitivity and the...

background: the objectives of our research were to search for leishmania species in rodents in fars province, south of iran, and to compare molecular with conventional methods for detecting these para-sites. methods: rodents were captured using live traps and screened for leishmania species using molecular and conventional methods, including the taking of smears from each ear. nested pcr was em...

For the rapid identification and detection of Vibrio anguillarum, we have PCR amplification technique targeting gyrB region has been evaluated. We have designed twosets of PCR primers for the specific amplification of gyrB in V. anguillarum using single and nested PCR. PCRs specificity was demonstrated by successful amplicon from V. anguillarum DNA. The detection limit of the single PCRs and th...

To evaluate the value of single and nested PCRs for diagnosis of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) in a variety of respiratorily distressed patient groups, 574 respiratory samples from 334 patients (89 human immunodeficiency virus [HIV]-positive patients, 61 transplant recipients, 66 malignancy patients, 34 otherwise immunosuppressed patients, and 84 immunocompetent patients) were prospectiv...

objectives: strr is a putative pathway specific regulator of streptomycin production in streptomyces griseus. because of finding new spo0j domain in strr by bioinformatics methods, the purpose of this study was to suggest another role for strr gene. this domain can be seen in proteins that are involved in initiation of sporulation and normal chromosome partitioning. so, 51 bps of strr in accord...

In order to determine the effects of antibiotic treatment on the results of nested PCRs for scrub typhus, we investigated the frequency of positive outcomes at various times after antibiotic administration in patients with scrub typhus. The rate of detection by nested PCR with blood buffy coat before antibiotic administration was 90.5%. However, this decreased to 60.5% within 3 days after admin...

A sensitive method of HLA-DRB1 typing was devised using a semi-nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by a restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis (semi-nested PCR-RFLP method). The first-round amplification (30 cycles) of the semi-nested PCR was performed using DRB generic primer pairs and the second round of PCRs (20 cycles) were performed using DRB1 group-specific p...

We report the case of a patient hospitalized with endocarditis. The etiological diagnosis of Bartonella was suggested by detection of high titers of antibodies by immunofluorescence and Western blotting. Two different nested PCRs performed on sera identified Bartonella vinsonii subsp. arupensis by sequencing.
