Cyclic signal processing refers to situations where all the time indices are interpreted modulo some integer L. Since the frequency domain is a uniform discrete grid, there is more freedom in theoretical and design aspects. The basics of cyclic(L) multirate systems and filter banks have already appeared in the literature, and important differences between the cyclic and noncyclic cases are know...

Design methods for paraunitary matrices from complete orthogonal sets of idempotents and related matrix structures are presented. These include techniques for designing non-separable multidimensional paraunitary matrices. Properties of the structures are obtained and proofs given. Paraunitary matrices play a central role in signal processing, in particular in the areas of filterbanks and wavelets.

Binary tree-structured filter banks have been employed in the past to generate wavelet bases. While the relation between paraunitary filter banks and orthonormal bases is known to some extent, there are some extensions which are either not known, or not published so far. In particular it is known that a binary tree-structured filter bank with the same paraunitary polyphase matrix on all levels ...

The theory of the real-coefficient linear-phase filterbank (LPFB) is extended to the complex case in two ways, leading to two generalized classes of -channel filterbanks. One is the symmetric/antisymmetric filterbank (SAFB), where all filters are symmetric or antisymmetric. The other is the complex linear phase filterbank (CLPFB), where all filters are Hermitian symmetric or Hermitian antisymme...

This paper proposes a synthesis method of 2-channel IIR paraunitary filter banks by successive extraction of 2-port lattice sections. When a power symmetry transfer function is given, a filter bank is realized as cascade of paraunitary 2-port lattice sections. The method can synthesize both oddand even-order filters with Butterworth or elliptic characteristics. The number of multiplications per...

We systematically investigate the factorization of causal finite impulse response (FIR) paraunitary filterbanks with given filter length. Based on the singular value decomposition of the coefficient matrices of the polyphase representation, a fundamental order-one factorization form is first proposed for general paraunitary systems. Then, we develop a new structure for the design and implementa...

This paper provides a new explicit expression for all real FIR paraunitary filters. From this we derive a new procedure for the design of the L components of any 2-channel FIR orthogonal L-tap filter. The input of this algorithm is any set of L/2 free parameters. Moreover, our procedure provides a parameterization of all orthogonal filters directly, with no need for iterations. For the special ...

This paper presents an adaptive method for maintaining paraunitary constraints on direct-form multichannel finite impulse response (FIR) filters. The technique is a spatiotemporal extension of a simple iterative procedure for imposing orthogonality constraints on nearly unitary matrices. A convergence analysis indicates that it has a large capture region, and its convergence rate is shown to be...
