We present the first experimental demonstration of enhanced second-harmonic generation (SHG) by means of power confinement with a femtosecond laser in a photovoltaic soliton-induced waveguide. A dark spatial soliton created with a weak cw laser beam in a photovoltaic lithium niobate crystal induces an efficient waveguide for SHG, leading to a 60% enhancement of the conversion efficiency.

Poly(3-hexylthiophene)-functionalized siloxane nanoparticles were prepared by a modified Stöber method. The photovoltaic performance of P3HT-nanohybrids with C60 derivative PCBM was evaluated. The device made from 1 : 1 blends of P3HT-NPs:PCBM showed reasonably good photovoltaic performance with a power conversion efficiency of 2.5% under standard test conditions (AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm(-2)).

We show theoretically and experimentally that the photovoltaic nonlinearity that gives rise to spatial solitons can be switched from self-defocusing to self-focusing (or vice versa) by use of background illumination. This raises the possibility of bright photovoltaic solitons in LiNbO(3) .

A new class of organic photovoltaic materials, poly(rod-coil) polymers composed of alternatively definite conjugated and non-conjugated segments, have been proposed. The first five examples based on polyurethane chemistry showed photovoltaic performance surpassing the reference compound, but less dependent on their molecular weight.

Insoluble CuMePc nanocrystals were incorporated into P3HT:PCBM bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cells to increase the carrier mobility and photon harvesting. The P1C1-based (weight ratio of P3HT: CuMePc = 1:1) OPV cell exhibited the best photovoltaic performance with a J(SC) of 16.3 mA cm(-2), V(OC) of 0.58 V, FF of 0.56 and PCE of 5.3%.
