Postoperative pseudomeningocele is a common complication of craniotomies for tumor resection. Intracranial hypertension can hinder dural repair and potentially lead to refractory or severe cases pseudomeningocele. We present an unconventional use venous sinus stenosis stenting treat postcraniotomy driven by intracranial hypertension.

Lumbar pseudomeningocele is an uncommon complication of lumbar spine surgeries. This occurred due to extradural encapsulated cerebrospinal fluid collection after accidental durotomy or un-repairable dural tear. On review of literature only 58 cases have been reported so far. Magnetic resonance imaging is the investigation of choice for diagnosis of pseudomeningocele. Herein author has described...

We report the first case of symptomatic thoracic spinal cord compression caused by postsurgical pseudomeningocele. A 49-year-old man sought treatment for progressive loss of strength in the lower extremities ten months after full neurological recovery for a thoracic (T11) intradural-extramedullary schwannoma. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a postsurgical thoracic (T11-T12) pseudomeningocel...

STUDY DESIGN Retrospective review. OBJECTIVES Large compressive pseudomeningocele causing a major neurologic deficit is a very rare complication that is not well described in the existing literature. METHODS Institutional review board consent was obtained to study 2552 consecutive extradural spinal surgical cases performed by a single senior spinal surgeon during a 10-year period. The surge...

This is a rare case of giant lumbar pseudomeningocele with intra-abdominal extension in patient with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). The patient's clinical course is retrospectively reviewed. A 34-year-old female affected by NF1 was referred to our institution for persistent low back pain and MRI diagnosis of pseudomeningocele located at L3 level with paravertebral extension. From the first sur...

Pseudomeningocele results from a tear of the dura leading to extravasation of CSF and formation of a CSF collection that may develop a fibrous capsule [1 -3) . The usual cause is an unintentional tear of the dura during surgery [4). Rarely, a pseudomeningocele may develop after trauma to the spine. We report a case of a posttraumatic pseudomeningocele, not only because of the unusual clinical m...

BACKGROUND Pseudomeningocele is a known operative complication of Chiari decompression with significant morbidity. METHODS A retrospective analysis of 150 consecutive patients from November 1991 to June 2011 was conducted. Symptomatic pseudomeningocele was defined clinically; to meet definition it must have required operative intervention. Variables evaluated included sex, age, use of graft, ...

INTRODUCTION  Suboccipital craniotomy is a workhorse neurosurgical operation for approaching the posterior fossa but carries a high risk of pseudomeningocele and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. We describe our experience with a simple T-shaped fascial opening that preserves the occipital myofascial cuff as compared to traditional methods to reduce this risk. METHODS  A single institution, ret...

BACKGROUND Pseudomeningocele, an extradural collection of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), has only been rarely reported to occur spontaneously in conjunction with isthmic spondylolisthesis (with lysis) in the lumbar spine. CASE DESCRIPTION A 68-year-old male presented with low back pain and neurogenic claudication of several years duration without any history of trauma, epidural spine injections, ...

Background and Importance: This interesting case is about the presence of normal pressure hydrocephalus and a large pseudomeningocele at the same time after 13 months of posterior fossa surgery. Although the occurrence of a pseudomeningocele following posterior fossa surgery is not so rare, such a late large pseudomeningocele development with signs and symptoms of NPH after 13 months of surgery...
