In their article entitled: “The decrease in erythrocyte sedimentation rate related to general anesthesia”, Clin Hemorheol Microcirc 35 (2006) 459–462, Caglayan and co-workers have investigated the effects of general anesthetic agents on erythrocyte properties, reflected in changes in the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR). In their introduction the authors referred to the one-hour ESR method ...

febrile convulsion (fc) is the most common seizure disorder in childhood. white blood cell (wbc) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (esr) are commonly measured in fc. trauma, vomiting and bleeding can also lead to wbc and esr so the blood tests must carefully be interpreted by the clinician. in this cross sectional study 410 children(163 with fc), aged 6 months to 5 years, admitted to bahrami c...

Zeta sedimentation ratio (ZSR) is a simple, rapid and reproducible test which is not influenced by variables like sex and anemia. There is good correlation with Westergren erythrocyte sedimentation ratio (ESR) in normal and hospital population. Limitation of packing force affects the use of the procedure in polycythemia and in patients with ZSR greater than 80%.

The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) has proved of the greatest use in the estimation of the activity or quiescence of chronic inflammatory disease. The mechanism of increase in the sedimentation rate is obscure, but experience has shown that the rate and amount of sedimentation is small when the destructive process is slight, and is markedly increased when the condition is active. Cholera ...
