An outdoor pot experiment was carried out in sand+ coco-peat culture (80:20 ratio) to investigate the response of nitrate reductase activity and nitrate accumulation in roots and leaves of fifteen Iranian landraces of spinach (Spinacia oleracea) at different stages of plant development. Plants were tested during a three periods from 22, 30 and 38 days after emergence of first true leaves and be...

Background: Restraint stress causes inflammation in nervous system that leads to emersion of neurodegenerative diseases. Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) contains different agents with antioxidant, antiapoptosis, and hepatoprotective properties. This study examined the effect of spinach hydroalcoholic extract (SHE) on TNF-α and IL-1β expression in hippocampus of male Wistar rats exposed to chroni...

This study was conducted to assess the effects of chronic daily spinach supplementation on known markers of muscle damage following half-marathon in well-trained healthy young men. Twenty well-trained men volunteered for this study. Participants were randomized in an open study placebo-controlled fashion into two groups, Spinach (S) (n = 10) and placebo (P) (n = 10). The participants took suppl...

The aim of the present study was to evaluate Mg absorption from a test meal served with an oxalate-rich vegetable, spinach, as compared with a test meal served with a vegetable with a low oxalate content, kale. Mg absorption was measured by a stable-isotope technique based on extrinsic labelling of the test meals and faecal monitoring of the excreted isotope labels. Nine healthy adults particip...

The ability of electrolyzed water (EW) to inactivate foodborne pathogens on the surfaces of lettuce and spinach was investigated. Lettuce and spinach leaves were inoculated with a cocktail of 3 strains each of Escherichia col O157:H7, Salmnonella Typhimurium, and Listeria monocytogenes and treated with acidic electrolyzed water (AC-EW), alkaline electrolyzed water (AK-EW), alkaline electrolyzed...

We report here that calmodulin isolated from the monocotyledon barley is indistinguishable by a variety of criteria from calmodulin isolated from the dicotyledon spinach. In contrast to previous reports, we find that barley (Hordeum vulgare) calmodulin has an amino acid composition similar to that of vertebrate and spinach calmodulins, including the presence of a single trimethyllysinyl residue...

Abstract In this study, the effect of nitrate to ammonium ratio and pH of nutrient solution on the changes in pH and EC of rhizosphere during spinach growth period in perlite culture, under greenhouse conditions, was investigated. A split factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with four replications was conducted with three factors including nutrient solution’s pH in three leve...

A deep learning model gives an incredible result for image processing by studying from the trained dataset. Spinach is a leaf vegetable that contains vitamins and nutrients. In our research, Deep method has been used can automatically identify spinach this dataset of total five species 3785 images. Four Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models were to classify spinach. These give more accurate...

In 2006, Utah and New Mexico health departments investigated a multistate cluster of Escherichia coli O157:H7. A case-control study of 22 case-patients found that consuming bagged spinach was significantly associated with illness (p<0.01). The outbreak strain was isolated from 3 bags of 1 brand of spinach. Nationally, 205 persons were ill with the outbreak strain.

The increase in foodborne outbreaks worldwide attributed to fresh fruit and vegetables suggests that produce may serve as an ecological niche for enteric pathogens. Here we examined the interaction of E. coli O157:H7 (EcO157) with spinach leaf indigenous microorganisms during co-colonization and establishment of a mixed biofilm on a stainless steel surface. Stainless steel surface was selected ...
