The newly discovered superconductor FeSe(1-x) (x approximately 0.08, T(c)(onset) approximately 13.5 K at ambient pressure rising to 27 K at 1.48 GPa) exhibits a structural phase transition from tetragonal to orthorhombic below 70 K at ambient pressure-the crystal structure in the superconducting state shows remarkable similarities to that of the REFeAsO(1-x)F(x) (RE = rare earth) superconductors.

For almost a century, thermoelectricity in superconductors has been one of the most intriguing topics in physics. During its early stages in the 1920s, the mere existence of thermoelectric effects in superconductors was questioned. In 1944, it was demonstrated that the effects may occur in inhomogeneous superconductors. Theoretical breakthrough followed in the 1970s, when the generation of a me...

We have performed polarized Raman scattering measurements on the newly discovered superconductor Ta4Pd3Te16 (T(c) = 4.6 K). We observe 28 out of 33 Raman active modes, with frequencies in good accordance with first-principles calculations. Although most of the phonons observed vary only slightly with temperature and do not exhibit any asymmetric profile that would suggest strong electron-phonon...

In layered superconductors (SC) with small interlayer Josephson coupling vortex-antivortex phase fluctuations characteristic of quasi two-dimensional (2D) Kosterlitz-Thouless behavior are expected to be observable at some energy scale T(d). While in the 2D case T(d) is uniquely identified by the KT temperature T(KT) where the universal value of the superfluid density is reached, we show that in...

We report an optical spectroscopy study on the newly discovered superconductor Cu0.07TiSe2. Consistent with the development from a semimetal or semiconductor with a very small indirect energy gap upon doping TiSe2, it is found that the compound has a low carrier density. Most remarkably, the study reveals a substantial shift of the screened plasma edge in reflectance towards high energy with de...

The superconductor simulator is an electronic circuit that emulates the extremely nonlinear voltage-current characteristic (the basis of a critical-current measurement) of a superconductor along with its other major electrical properties. Three different types of simulators have been constructed: the passive, active, and hybrid simulator. The passive simulator has the fewest circuit components ...

The superfluid density, rho{s}, of the iron chalcogenide superconductor, FeSe1-x, was studied as a function of pressure by means of muon-spin rotation. The analysis of rho{s}(T) within the two-gap scheme reveals that the effect on both, the transition temperature T{c} and rho{s}(0), is entirely determined by the band(s) where the large superconducting gap develops, while the band(s) with the sm...

In this paper, a dc Josephson junction between two singlet superconductors (d-wave and s-wave) with arbitrary reflection coefficient has been investigated theoretically. For the case of high Tc superconductors, the c-axes are parallel to an interface with finite transparency and their ab-planes have a mis-orientation. The physics of potential barrier will be demonstrated by a transparency coeff...

In this paper, we review a large set of experimental data acquired over the past decade by several groups, and demonstrate how it can be used to construct a detailed picture of the low-temperature metallic state of the unconventional superconductor Sr2RuO4. We show how the normal state properties can be consistently and quantitatively explained in terms of Landau quasi-particles moving on a qua...

The electronic structure of quasi-one-dimensional superconductor K2Cr3As3 is studied through systematic first-principles calculations. The ground state of K2Cr3As3 is paramagnetic. Close to the Fermi level, the Cr-3dz(2), dxy, and d(x(2)-y(2)) orbitals dominate the electronic states, and three bands cross EF to form one 3D Fermi surface sheet and two quasi-1D sheets. The electronic DOS at EF is...
