Nagisa Bridge, a single span footbridge, was recently completed in Aomori prefecture, Japan. The structure of this bridge is a hybrid structure of cable-stayed prestressed concrete bridge and steel suspension bridge. It is the first application as this structure type of bridge in the world. Concrete girders near pylons are supported by stay cables. Steel girders are supported by suspension cabl...

Traveling Waves in a Suspension Bridge System by Robert A. Ain, Jr. Dr. Zhonghai Ding, Examination Committee Chair Associate Professor of Mathematics University of Nevada, Las Vegas In this thesis, we study the traveling waves in a Lazer-McKenna suspension bridge system which is governed by two coupled nonlinear beam and wave equations. The Lazer-McKenna suspension bridge system describes the v...

In this paper, we study nonlinear oscillations in a suspension bridge system governed by two coupled nonlinear partial differential equations. By applying the Leray-Schauder degree theory, it is proved that the suspension bridge system has at least two solutions, one is a near-equilibrium oscillation, and the other is a large amplitude oscillation.

OBJECTIVES To examine the epidemiology of suicide by jumping from the Clifton Suspension Bridge and its impact on local patterns of suicide. DESIGN Case-control study of falls from the bridge (1974-93) matched by age and sex with those using other methods of suicide. Routine OPCS mortality statistics for Bristol and District Health Authority. SETTING The County of Avon and the Bristol and D...

Many researches have been currently conducted on the effects of fault distance on structures revealing that their seismic response can differ according to their distance from the fault. Suspension bridges due to their long period and high flexibility can be more sensitive to this phenomenon, especially in vertical vibration. Since the engineers tend to use longer spans, the length factor should...
