Epitrix hirtipennis (Melsheimer, 1847) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini), a leaf beetle native to North America, is recorded for the first time from Hungary. Several specimens were found on tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) plantations in eastern and central parts of country. Its life cycle importance as pest are briefly discussed.

Howardula dominicki n. sp. is described from specimens collected from the tobacco flea beetle, Epitrix hirtipennis (Melsheimer), at Oxford, North Carolina , and is distinguished from other members of the genus . Parasitism by H. dominicki sterilized female flea beetles and often led to the death of larvae.
