Investigating on pathophysiology of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and its associating genetic derangements: A review study

نویسندگان

چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is known as a prevalent, long-term condition of the digestive system, which affect a significant proportion of societies. Methods: In the current study, we have reviewed and investigated on the conducted researches covering IBS pathophysiology and the genes associated  with the manifestation of the syndrome.Findings: Throughout the published literature about IBS, various environmental factors as well as the influence of particular genes have been introduced as the underlying causes of raising IBS. This study is an effort to review, assess and collect data on multiple causes which leads to IBS manifestation. Conclusion: Although no certain and definite cause of IBS was found throughout searched and reviewed articles, factors such as stresses, childhood events, previous bowel infection, neurotransmitter changes in brain and genetic alterations have been described and explained through articles. Diagnosing IBS should be done precautiously and primary examinations on inspecting organic diseases in the digestive system should take place prior to diagnosis of the syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Diet

The role of diet in patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome still remains empirical, as the underlying pathophysiologic disturbances of this disorder are not fully elucidated and randomised controlled trials are difficult to perform. The mainstey for dietary manipulation still remains the exclusion diets. The new, in this field is that the “forbidden” foods are fewer than in the past and the die...

Irritable bowel syndrome: current review on pathophysiology and diagnotic aspects.

Until now, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) has been one of gastrointestinal disorders which have not been fully understood. Clinically, there are some findings that indicate the role of inflammatory process in pathogenesis of IBS; such as, the onset of IBS that occurs after an episode of gastroenteritis (post-infective IBS (PI-IBS)). Although there is less evidence supporting genetic factors in ...

Irritable bowel syndrome: methods, mechanisms, and pathophysiology. Genetic epidemiology and pharmacogenetics in irritable bowel syndrome.

The objectives of this review are twofold. Our first objective is to evaluate the evidence supporting a role for genetics in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Specific examples of the associations of genetic variation and symptoms, syndromes, and intermediate phenotypes, including neurotransmitter (serotonergic, α(2)-adrenergic, and cannabinoid) mechanisms, inflammatory pathways (IL-10, TNFα, GNβ...
