Magneto-optical Faraday effect of Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi:YIG) films with random multilayer structures was analyzed by using the random matrix approach. It was found that the random multilayer structure is very effective for enhancing the Faraday effect of the Bi:YIG film, which is much superior than that of the periodic multilayer films.

We present measurement and analysis techniques that allow the complex magneto-conductivity tensor to be determined from measurements of the complex Faraday (θF) and Kerr (θK) angles. θF and θK are measured in a Ga1−xMnxAs and SrRuO3 films. Thick film transmission and reflection equations are used to convert the complex θF and θK into the complex longitudinal conductivity σxx and the complex tra...

The Faraday rotation of terbium iron garnet at 1.15 03BC wavelength is presented. The experimental results have been obtained along the [111] easy direction both in low d.c. field 20 kOe as a function of temperature between 4.2 and 300 K and at room temperature as a function of the applied field (up to 1 200 kOe). The results are analysed in terms of magnetic and electric dipole contributions f...

It is demonstrated how the right hand sides of the Lorentz Transformation equations may be written, in a Lorentz invariant manner, as 4–vector scalar products. This implies the existence of invariant length intervals analogous to invariant proper time intervals. The formalism is shown to provide a short derivation of the Lorentz force law of classical electrodynamics, and the conventional defin...
