چکیده مقاله:

Background and purpose: The association between periodontal diseases and endometrial cancer (EC) has been assessed in some studies but the probable role of inflammatory factors such as visfatin is unknown. This study aimed at evaluating the levels of visfatin in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in patients with EC and chronic periodontitis (CP) to address this gap. Materials and methods: In a case-control study with matched age and body mass index controls, 120 female participants were divided into four groups. Case groups included group I (EC-CP [n=20]), group II (EC without CP [n=20]), and controls were group III (without EC but diagnosed with CP [n=40]), and group IV (healthy without EC or CP [n=40]). GCF samples were collected and visfatin was assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Clinical periodontal parameters such as periodontal pocket depth, clinical attachment loss, and bleeding on probing were significantly higher in EC-CP group than other groups (P<0.001). Mean visfatin level in GCF was found to be significantly different in group I compared with groups II and IV (P<0.001). Also, there was a significant difference in visfatin concentration in GCF between group III and group IV (P<0.001). Conclusion: According to current study, GCF visfatin concentration is probably associated with EC and CP.

Arginine and glutamate levels in the gingival crevicular fluid from patients with chronic periodontitis.

The objectives of this study were to determine arginine and glutamate levels in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of adult chronic periodontitis patients versus periodontally healthy controls, and to compare two kinds of microdialysis probes: normal and U-shaped probes. The analysis of GCF components was developed to improve the diagnosis of periodontal disease (PD). Proteolysis in the period...

Gingival Crevicular Fluid Immunoglobulins in Smokers with Chronic Periodontitis

Tobacco smoking is regarded as one of the most significant risk factors in the development and progression of periodontal disease. Studies have shown an altered host antibody response to antigenic challenge in smokers with periodontitis. The study was undertaken to estimate the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) immunoglobulin G,A,M (IgA, IgG and IgM) levels in smokers and non smoker with periodon...

Analysis of superoxide dismutase activity levels in gingiva and gingival crevicular fluid in patients with chronic periodontitis and periodontally healthy controls.

OBJECTIVES Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an antioxidant enzyme that acts against superoxide, an oxygen radical, released in inflammatory pathways and causes connective tissue breakdown. In this study, SOD activities in gingiva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) from patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and periodontally healthy controls were compared. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-six CP p...

OBJECTIVES This study was undertaken to investigate the OPG profiles in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), saliva, and gingival tissues of chronic periodontitis (CP) patients in response to open flap debridement (OFD). SUBJECTS AND METHODS The study included 30 subjects divided into 2 groups: 20 CP patients and 10 periodontally healthy subjects. Plaque index, gingival index, pocket depth, and c...

Influence of smoking on clinical parameters and gingival crevicular fluid volume in patients with chronic periodontitis.

BACKGROUND Tobacco smoking is regarded as one of the most significant risk factors for the development and progression of periodontal disease. In particular, studies have shown an alteration in Gingival Crevicular Fluid (GCF) volume and its components in smokers. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to compare the GCF volume in smoking and non-smoking Saudi subjects with chronic periodonti...
