We demonstrate a relationship between the singular values of the design matrix and the discrete Fourier transform of the radial function for radial basis function networks. We then show how regularisation leads to high frequency filtering of the network output. In certain circumstances, this allows the network parameters to be chosen a priori to appropriately bias the learning process.

Our aim in this study is to illuminate the dependence of planimetric crater shape on the properties of geological targets, as well as modification state. We have measured the rim trace of 110 comparatively fresh impact craters in HiRISE images (i.e., craters with preserved ejecta), as well as 840 fresh craters in MOC images. From the planimetric shape (i.e., the rim trace) we compute a suite of...

We present a novel method to characterize 3D surfaces through the computation of a function called (multiscale) area projection transform, measuring the likelihood of points in the 3D space to be center of radial symmetry at selected scales (radii). The function is derived through a simple geometric framework based on parallel surfaces and can be easily computed on triangulated meshes. It measu...

Facial expression analysis is rapidly becoming an area of intense interest in computer science and human-computer interaction design communities. The most expressive way humans display emotions is through facial expressions. In this paper we present a method to analyze facial expression from images by applying Gabor wavelet transform (GWT) and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) on face images. Rad...

We consider the generalized Segal–Bargmann transform, defined in terms of the heat operator, for a noncompact symmetric space of the complex type. For radial functions, we show that the Segal–Bargmann transform is a unitary map onto a certain L space of meromorphic functions. For general functions, we give an inversion formula for the Segal–Bargmann transform, involving integration against an “...

Weighted L(R)→ L(R) Fourier inequalities are studied. We prove Pitt–Boas type results on integrability with general weights of the Fourier transform of a radial function.
