Transaminase enzymes have significant potential for the stereoselective synthesis of drugs or drug precursors. Here, starting from one prochiral β-tetralone, a short and efficient chemoenzymatic four agonists serotonin/melatonin receptors been developed. The key step is transamination ketone to produce both enantiomers 8-methoxy-2-aminotetraline in high yields enantiomeric excesses. This was fo...

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(17)H(17)N(2)O(2) (+)·Cl(-)·H(2)O, contains one-half of the cation, one-half of a water mol-ecule and a chloride anion. The complete cation is generated by crystallographic two-fold symmetry, with one C atom lying on the rotation axis. The O and Cl atoms have site symmetry 2. The imidazolidium ring is oriented at a dihedral angle of 4.15 (3)° with res...

Two new compounds, fumitremorgin 12-methoxy-13-[5'-hydroxy-2'-(1''-hydroxy-3''-methoxy-5''-methylbenzoyl)-3'-methoxy]benzoic acid methyl ester (fumitremorgin D, 1) and 4,8,10,14-tetramethyl-6-acetoxy-14-[16-acetoxy-19-(20,21-dimethyl)-18-ene]-phenanthrene-1-ene-3,7-dione (2) were isolated from the cultured endophytic isolated fungus Aspergillus fumigatus, together with fourteen known compounds....

Mitochondria plays a major role in maintaining homeostasis of heart cells. Mitochondria produce ATP and is the main intracellular source of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which can cause oxidative damage. Free oxygen radicals and oxidative damage are associated with cardiovascular pathology. Antioxidant defense can play an essential role in preventing oxidative damage by controlling free oxygen ...

Chemical investigation of the methanol crude extract dried flower buds Syzygium aromaticum (Myrtaceae) resulted in isolation seven known compounds; oleanolic acid (1), lignoceric (2), β-sitosterol (3), heneicosanoic (4), 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2-methylchromone (5), 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2,8-dimethylchromone (6) and vanillin (7). Their structures were elucidated using one-dimensional NMR spectroscopy...

Bacterial metabolism of Tyr and Phe has been associated with the formation of aromatic compounds that impart barny-utensil and floral off-flavors in cheese. In an effort to identify possible mechanisms for the origin of these compounds in Cheddar cheese, we investigated Tyr and Phe catabolism by Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus helveticus cheese flavor adjuncts under simulated Cheddar chee...

Dichloromethane root extract of Rennellia elliptica Korth. showed strong inhibition of Plasmodium falciparum growth in vitro with an IC₅₀ value of 4.04 µg/mL. A phytochemical study of the dichloromethane root extract has led to the isolation and characterization of a new anthraquinone, 1,2-dimethoxy-6-methyl-9,10-anthraquinone (1), and ten known anthraquinones: 1-hydroxy-2-methoxy-6-methyl-9,10...

Objective: The genus of Ferula belongs to the tribe Peucedaneae, subfamily of Apioideae and family of Umbelliferae with 133 species distributed throughout the Mediterranean area and central Asia, especially in the former USSR and neighboring countries such as Iran. The popular Persian name of the most of these species is “Koma”. In this research we tried to isolate and elucidate the structure o...

An efficient synthesis of the 1,l'-dihydroxy-2,2'-(thiodimethy1ene)bis-9(10H)- anthrone (5) is described. Reaction of 1 -methoxy-2-(bromomethy1)-9,lOanthraquinone (1) with excess sodium sulfide in ethanol, demethylation to the corresponding hydroxy and subsequent selective reduction produced the title compound in high yield.

Curcumin is the major phenolic compound present in turmeric (Curcuma longa L.). Curcumin and 15 novel analogs were investigated for their antioxidant and selected biological activities. Strong relationships between the structure and evaluated activity revealed that the compounds with specific functional groups and carbon skeleton had specific biological profiles. Among the compounds tested, the...
