A quasi-homogeneous liquid krypton electromagnetic calorimeter is under construction for a precision study of CP violation in neutral kaons decays. The main characteristics of the detector are discussed, together with results on energy, space and time resolution obtained with a prototype detector.

An efficient and convenient procedure for the hydrogen peroxide oxidation of primary alcohols to the carboxylic acids in aqueous media in regulated temperature-dependant; recyclable phase-separation catalytic system comprised of the PEG1000-based dicationic acidic ionic liquid and toluene under homogeneous conditions in good to excellent yield is reported.

Chitosan, which is derived from the biopolymer chitin, can be readily dissolved in different ionic liquids. The resulting homogeneous solutions were applied in an asymmetric Aldol reaction. Depending on the type of ionic liquid used, high asymmetric inductions were found. The influence of different additives was also studied. The best results were obtained in [BMIM][Br] without an additive.

In liquid crystals, the existing experiments and simulations suggest that for various types of molecules: no homogeneous phase is found breaking the molecular symmetry. It has been proved for rod-like molecules. We conjecture that it holds for two types of two-fold symmetries, and prove it for some molecules with these symmetries.

We investigate a one-dimensional model describing the motion of liquid drops sliding down an inclined plane (the so-called quasi-static approximation model). We prove existence and uniqueness of a solution and investigate its long time behavior for both homogeneous and inhomogeneous medium (i.e. constant and non-constant contact angle). We also obtain some homogenization results.
