Increased soil strength due to soil compaction or soil drying is a major limitation to root growth and crop productivity. Roots need to exert higher penetration force, resulting in increased penetration stress when elongating in soils of greater strength. This study aimed to quantify how the genotypic diversity of root tip geometry and root diameter influences root elongation under different le...

different researchers in different parts of the world have investigated the strategies used to translate written works ranging from novels to classroom assignments. however, by the significant increase in the number of postgraduate students in iran in the last few years, a very common kind of translation in iran includes translating abstracts of master’s theses. in this work, the researcher hav...

Cover plants can be introduced in cropping systems to provide agroecosystem services, including weed control via competition for resources. There is currently no consensus on how to identify the best cover plant species, while trait-based approaches are promising for screening plant species due to their agroecosystem service provision potential. This study was carried out to characterize soil e...

introduction: the exact measurement of the root canal length is of great importance in root canal therapy. although, determination of the root canal length through radiography is the most common method, recently electronic apex locators are being used to determine working length and decrease the number of radiographs. the purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of an electronic apex l...

In the range 16 to 29 degrees C, increases in temperature caused large (two-to threefold) increases in growth velocity, growth strain rate, and biomass deposition rate in primary roots of maize, Zea mays L. Temperature had small effects on root diameter, fresh weight density, and dry weight density, and negligible effects on length of the growth zone and growth strain at particular positions.

This paper discusses the effects of intercropping and tree pruning on root distribution and soil water depletion in an alley cropping system with Acacia saligna and Sorghum bicolor in northern Kenya. Root distribution was determined by destructive sampling, and the soil water suction was measured with tensiometers and gypsum blocks, both up to 150 cm depth. The root systems of the intercropped ...

In order to assess the effect of salinity on root traits and yield of two wheat cultivars, an experiment was conducted in Agricultural, Medical and Industrial Research School, Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute, Karaj, Iran, using factorial experiment based on complete randomized design with 3 replications. The first factor included sensitive wheat cv. (Tajan) and tolerant cv. (B...

An effort carried out to find out the smaller size of cuttings for propagation ofMorus alba in Experimental area, Department of Forestry, Range Management and Wildlife, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, 2005. Different size of cuttings i.e.5 cm, 10 cm, 15 cm and 20 cm were planted in polythene tubes of 9 cm x 18 cm. The attempt was also made to compare the performance of cuttings outdoor a...

The potential exists to breed for root system architectures that optimize resource acquisition. However, this requires the ability to screen root system development quantitatively, with high resolution, in as natural an environment as possible, with high throughput. This paper describes the construction of a low-cost, high-resolution root phenotyping platform, requiring no sophisticated equipme...
