Morphological selection of the self-assembled nanostructure of zwitterionic porphyrins between nanorod and nanosheet by the small displacement of the peripheral anionic position is demonstrated based on the J-aggregates of zwitterionic porphyrin isomers, meso-tetrakis(5-sulfonatothienyl)porphyrin diacid and meso-tetrakis(4-sulfonatothienyl)porphyrin diacid.

Regioselective meso-functionalization of the totally unsubstituted magnesium(II) porphine was performed by controlled potential electrolysis with pyridine and triphenylphosphine as nucleophiles leading to the original pyridinium and phosphonium substituted derivatives, respectively. The crystallographic structure of the latter is described as the only meso-phosphonium porphyrin reported to date.

The synthesis of some 9,10-disubstituted anthracene derivatives are described. 9,10-Bis(2-bromoethyl) anthracene 4,9,10-Bis (2-cyanoethyl) anthracene 5 and 9,10-Bis (4-hydroxybutyl) anthracene 11 are synthesized for the first time.

Sensitivity discs containing 1 and 2 mg meso-erythritol were found to give comparable results to the use of meso-erythritol incorporated into growth medium at 1 and 2 mg/ml. The discs proved easy and efficient when used in a disc ring together with benzyl penicillin and streptomycin sulphate discs.

To examine prevalence changes and risk factors for canine leishmaniasis, we conducted a cross-sectional seroprevalence study and a survey during April-June 2006. Seroprevalence had increased at the meso-Mediterranean bioclimatic level over 22 years. Risk was highest for dogs that were older, large, lived outside, and lived at the meso-Mediterranean level.

A diastereoselective procedure to obtain N-para-methoxybenzyl bis-alpha,alpha'-3-(3-phenyl-2-pyrrolidinone)yl substituted ketones with non-adjacent quaternary stereocenters, DL-2 and meso-3 was followed by a photoinduced, spin-dependent, and diastereoselective decarbonylation to give compounds DL-4 and meso-5, with adjacent all-carbon quaternary stereogenic centers.
