Decorrelating transformations (referred to as DECOR transformations) to reduce the power dissipation in digital filters are presented in this paper. The transfer function and/or the input is decorrelated such that fewer bits are required to represent the coefficients and inputs. Thus, the size of the arithmetic units in the filter is reduced, thereby reducing the power dissipation. The DECOR tr...

Modern technologies are producing a wealth of data with complex structures. For instance, in two-dimensional digital imaging, flow cytometry and electroencephalography, matrix-type covariates frequently arise when measurements are obtained for each combination of two underlying variables. To address scientific questions arising from those data, new regression methods that take matrices as covar...

In this paper, the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS) is extended to solve some special cases of the problem of transient heat conduction in functionally graded materials. First, the problem is transformed to a heat equation with constant coefficients using a suitable new transformation and then the MFS together with the Tikhonov regularization method is used to solve the resulting equation.

We address pilot-symbol aided channel estimation (PACE) for OFDM. To reduce the complexity of the optimum minimum mean squared error (MMSE) estimator, two sub-optimum estimators are investigated. First, an estimator utilizing an FIR filter of reduced length. The filter coefficients are determined according to a Wiener filter with model mismatch, i.e. the channel conditions which are assumed to ...

A new recursive algorithm for the impulse response coefficients of a FIR lowpass filter is developed. The algorithm is obtained from the differential equation for the amplitude response of a lowpass filter. While the original filter exhibits maximally flat frequency response, the abridging of the impulse response provides a frequency response comparable to those obtained by other design methods.

This paper presents a design technique for high fidelity multistage decimation filters based on the polyphase and decimator structures presented in [1][2], catering for powers of two sample-rate decreases. The technique is well suited for Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) applications in excess of 16 bit resolution. The resulting filter coefficients are constrained to the required bit length us...

There is a growing demand for the high quality TV programs such as High Defini-tion TV (HDTV). The CATV network is often a suitable solution to address thisdemand using a CATV modem delivering high data rate digital signals in a cost ef-fective manner, thereby, utilizing a complex digital modulation scheme is inevitable.Exploiting complex modulation schemes, entails a more sophi...
