A complete dialogue system within the task domain of making an appointment is presented. It is based on a semantic network representation of linguistic knowledge and a word recognition system that communicates with the interpretation component bi-directionally. System robustness is achieved using a special meta-score that evaluates the advance of the linguistic interpretation.
We clarify and correct some statements and results in the literature concerning unimodularity in the sense of Hrushovski [7], and measurability in the sense of Macpherson and Steinhorn [8], pointing out in particular that the two notions coincide for strongly minimal structures and that another property from [7] is strictly weaker, as well as “completing” Elwes’ proof [5] that measurability imp...
Grammatical Framework (GF) is a meta-language for multilingual linguistic descriptions, which can be used to build rule-based interlingua MT applications in natural sublanguage domains. The GF open-source package contains linguistic and computational resources to facilitate language engineering including: a resource grammar library for ten languages, a user interface for multilingual authoring ...
Reflective systems have a causally connected (metalevel) representation of themselves. Most reflective systems use the same language to reason about their metalevel representation as the language that is used to reason about their domain. In symbiotic reflection a different language is used at the metalevel. The practical usability of this symbiotic reflection is enhanced if a linguistic symbio...
We present the Royal Society Corpus (RSC) built from the Philosophical Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. At present, the corpus contains articles from the first two centuries of the journal (1665–1869) and amounts to around 35 million tokens. The motivation for building the RSC is to investigate the diachronic linguistic development of scientific English. Specifically...
We show that Σ3-absoluteness under Sacks forcing is equivalent to the Sacks measurability of every ∆2 set of reals. We also show that Sacks forcing is the weakest forcing notion among all of the preorders which always add a new real with respect to Σ3 forcing absoluteness.
We assess the strength of the different conditions identified in the literature of robust mechanism design. We focus on three conditions: ex post incentive compatibility, robust monotonicity, and robust measurability. Ex post incentive compatibility has been shown to be necessary for any concept of robust implementation, while robust monotonicity and robust measurability have been shown to be n...
Say that κ’s measurability is destructible if there exists a <κ-closed forcing adding a new subset of κ which destroys κ’s measurability. For any δ, let λδ =df The least beth fixed point above δ. Suppose that κ is indestructibly supercompact and there is a measurable cardinal λ > κ. It then follows that A1 = {δ < κ | δ is measurable, δ is not a limit of measurable cardinals, δ is not δ+ strongl...
The Diola-Fogny of S6n6gal, West Africa, socially intuit with the meta-linguistic terms 'big' and 'thin' the tense/lax vowel contrast that is basic to their phonology. The two terms are primarily used to identify speech variation among individuals and groups. Examination revealed that speakers who made relatively greater use of vowel harmony were characterized as 'big' in contrast to others who...
this study was an attempt to investigate the effect of teaching meta cognitive strategies on iranian intermediate efl students speaking proficiency. in this study the researcher has employed metacognitive strategies taken from brown (2000) to teach speaking strategies to number of participants. the participants were intermediate students of shokouh language institute; they were divided into an ...
