this dissertation has six chapter and tree appendices. chapter 1 introduces the thesis proposal including description of problem, key questions, hypothesis, backgrounds and review of literature, research objectives, methodology and theoretical concepts (key terms) taken the literature and facilitate an understanding of national security, national interest and turkish- israeli relations concepts...
Present kl-one-like knowledge base management systems (KBMS), whilst ooer-ing highly structured description languages aside eecient concepts classiication, have limited capability to manage large amounts of individuals. Data base management systems (DBMS) can, instead, manage large amounts of data eeciently, but give scarce formalism to organize them in a structured way, and to reason with them...
In this paper, we introduce a set of methodological steps for knowledge acquisition applied to the organization of biomedical information through ontologies. Those steps are tested in a real case involving Human T Cell Lymphotropic Virus (HTLV), which causes myriad infectious diseases. We hope to contribute to providing suitable knowledge representation of scientific domains.
conclusions despite limitations of this study, our findings highlight low to moderate level of knowledge of undergraduate medical students in principles of research methodology and the important impact of research methodology workshops. results median age of participants was 19 ranging from 17-21. 15 (25%) of participants were male and 45 (75%) were female. 45 (75%) of participants had not atte...
An improved version of IRACQ (for Interpretation Rule ACQuisition) is presented. I Our approach to semantic knowledge acquisition: 1 ) is in the context of a general purpose NL interface rather than one that accesses only databases, 2) employs a knowledge representation formalism with limited inferencing capabilities, 3) assumes a trained person but not an AI expert, and 4) provides a complete ...
Managing uncertainty in complex domains requires a exible and semantically sound knowledge representation. This is especially important during the initial knowledge engineering and subsequent maintenance of the knowledge base. We present a new model of knowledge representation called Bayesian Knowledge Bases. It uniies a \if-then" style rules with probability theory. We can prove that such a me...
IntroductIon Knowledge bases (KBs) must be able to capture a wide range of situations. One must be able to represent and answer questions regarding indefinite information where it is not clear that there is a unique answer to a question. One must also represent and answer questions about negative information. We discuss a powerful way to represent such information, namely through reasoning abou...
this study was an attempt to investigate and compare the effect of lexical inferencing and concept mapping on developing vocabulary retention of iranian language learners. sixty homogeneous students from different intact classes who were being taught as intermediate learners in sokhan english institute participated in this study. they were in different classes. a teacher made test as a pre-test...
abstract this study aimed at investigating the impact of etymology strategy instruction on the development of vocabulary of iranian intermediate efl learners. etymology, knowledge of origin of words, roots, and affixes, has proved to be a controversial issue and a question of long debate with regard to its impact on the process of vocabulary learning. this study employed etymology strategy in ...
