This is a continuation to the study of EP elements, normal elements and partial isometries in rings with involution. The aim of this paper is to give the negative solution to three conjectures on this subject. Moreover, some new characterizations of EP elements in rings with involution are presented.

In this paper, the concept of countably near PS-compactness inL-topological spaces is introduced, where L is a completely distributive latticewith an order-reversing involution. Countably near PS-compactness is definedfor arbitrary L-subsets and some of its fundamental properties are studied.

In this paper, we study generalized quadratic forms over a division algebra with involution of the first kind in characteristic two. For this, we associate to every generalized quadratic from a quadratic form on its underlying vector space. It is shown that this form determines the isotropy behavior and the isometry class of generalized quadratic forms.

BACKGROUND Terminal duct lobular units (TDLU) are the predominant source of breast cancers. Lesser degrees of age-related TDLU involution have been associated with increased breast cancer risk, but factors that influence involution are largely unknown. We assessed whether circulating hormones, implicated in breast cancer risk, are associated with levels of TDLU involution using data from the Su...

Mammary gland involution is a physiological process in which the entire organ is remodeled through the process of apoptosis. Apoptosis of secretory alveolar cells is initiated at the time of weaning, followed by the collapse and disappearance of the entire lobuloalveolar compartment. While apoptotic figures were rare in mammary epithelium of lactating mice, their number increased after weaning ...

We define an action of the symmetric group S[ n 2 ] on the set of domino tableaux, and prove that the number of domino tableaux of weight β does not depend on the permutation of the weight β. A bijective proof of the well-known result due to J. Stembridge that the number of self–evacuating tableaux of a given shape and weight β = (β1, . . . , β[ n+1 2 ], β[ n2 ], . . . , β1), is equal to that o...

The reaper (rpr) and head involution defective (hid) genes mediate programmed cell death (PCD) during Drosophila development. We show that expression of either rpr or hid under control of a rhodopsin promoter induces rapid cell death of adult photoreceptor cells. Ultrastructural analysis revealed that the dying photoreceptor cells share morphological features with other cells undergoing PCD. Th...

In this paper we present a decomposition theorem for hermitian forms over fields of characteristic 2 refining the usual Witt decomposition in this case. We apply this decomposition to algebras with involution over fields of characteristic 2 to give a complete description of the effect of passing to a generic splitting field of the algebra on the isotropy of the involution.

We give a complete description of subdirectly irreducible rings with involution satisfying x = x for some positive integer n. We also discuss ways to apply this result for constructing lattices of varieties of rings with involution obeying an identity of the given type. MSC 2000: 16W10, 08B26, 08B15

In the present paper a solution of the generalizedquadratic functional equation$$f(kx+ y)+f(kx+sigma(y))=2k^{2}f(x)+2f(y),phantom{+} x,yin{E}$$ isgiven where $sigma$ is an involution of the normed space $E$ and$k$ is a fixed positive integer. Furthermore we investigate theHyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of the functional equation. TheHyers-Ulam stability on unbounded domains is also studied.Applic...
