Adding knowledge to a knowledge-based system is not monotonically bene cial. We discuss and experimentally validate this observation in the context of CABINS, a system that learns control knowledge for iterative repair in ill-structured optimization problems. In CABINS, situation-dependent user's decisions that guide the repair process are captured in cases together with contextual problem info...

We describe an algorithm to deal with automatic error repair over unrestricted context-free languages. The method relies on a regional least-cost repair strategy with validation, gathering all relevant information in the context of the error location. The system guarantees the asymptotic equivalence with global repair strategies.

the overall goal of this study was to identify the appropriate biomaterials able to facilitate the regeneration in rat's injured adult spinal cord. acute damage to axons is manifested as a breach in their membranes, ionexchange distortion across the compromised region, local depolarization and even conduction block. it would be of particular importance to interrupt the progress of events h...

How people maintain and repair their self-esteem has been a topic of widespread interest. In this article, the authors ask, What determines whether people will use direct, remedial actions, or defensive actions? In three studies, they tested the hypothesis that a belief in fixed intelligence (entity theory) would produce defensiveness, whereas a belief in improvable intelligence (incremental th...

Most companies seek efficient rectification strategies to keep their warranty related costs under control. This study develops and investigates different repair strategies for oneand two-dimensional warranties with the objective of minimizing manufacturer’s expected warranty cost. Static, improved and dynamic repair strategies are proposed and analyzed under different warranty structures. Numer...

Nowadays, offering extended warranty is considered as a lucrative source of income from the perspective of the after-sale service providers. Meanwhile, the main concern is presence or absence of base warranty and strategies adopted by the manufacturer during this period. Moreover, extended warranty structure must be responsive and customer oriented, which not only control the services cost but ...

Therapeutic strategies for neurological deficits and for promoting nerve regeneration after peripheral nerve injuries have received much focus in clinical research. Advances in basic research in recent years have increased our understanding of the anatomy of peripheral nerves and the importance of the microenvironment. Various new intervention methods have been developed, but with varying effec...

Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells or mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are mainly isolated from bone marrow or fat tissue. Because of their potential of multilineage differentiation towards bone, cartilage and fat tissue, they were initially evaluated to develop innovative strategies for tissue engineering applications. More recently, they have gained interest based on their immunomodulatory pr...

Although hyperthermophilic archaea arguably have a great need for efficient DNA repair, they lack members of several DNA repair protein families broadly conserved among bacteria and eukaryotes. Conversely, the putative DNA repair genes that do occur in these archaea often do not generate the expected phenotype when deleted. The prospect that hyperthermophilic archaea have some unique strategies...
