Background and purpose: Gastrointestinal symptoms along with respiratory symptoms recorded in patients with Covid-19 indicate the role of microbiota in this disease. The purpose of this scientometric study was to assess the articles published on the relationship between microbiota and Covid-19 in order to control the pandemic by reaching new strategies. Materials and methods: Relevant articl...
Objectives: To assess the 2008–2012 Canadian contribution to the Otolaryngology literature. Methods: All articles published from January 2008 December 2012 in 5 Otolaryngology journals were reviewed. Nationality, number of authors, and study type were extracted. The output, number of authors, and study type of Canadian papers were compared to International papers using Mantel-Haenszel Common Od...
I compare the co-authorship patterns of male and female economists, using historical data on National Bureau Economic Research working papers. Men tended to work in smaller teams than women, but co-authored more papers so had co-authors overall. Both men women same-gender we would expect if co-authorships were random. This was especially true for Macro/Finance.
Many fields face an increasing prevalence of multi-authorship, and this poses challenges in assessing citation metrics. Here, we explore multiple citation indicators that address total impact (number of citations, Hirsch H index [H]), co-authorship adjustment (Schreiber Hm index [Hm]), and author order (total citations to papers as single; single or first; or single, first, or last author). We ...
BACKGROUND Attitudes to, and practices of, scientific authorship vary. We have studied this variation among researchers in a university hospital and medical school in Norway. METHODS We invited all faculty, researchers and PhD students at Oslo University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (approximately 2700) by e-mail to answer a web-based questionnaire in January 2013....
Background : Currently, the scientific output indexed in databases such as ISI is the major criteria for evaluation and ranking of countries, researchers, institutes and universities in the world. Each country's share in the world's scientific output in general and specifically in a specific field will be evaluated accordingly. Therefore, determination of the rate of growth of articles from I...
Using Stokes’s (1997) “quadrant model of scientific research,” this paper deals with how the entrepreneurial orientation of scientists affects their scientific performance by considering its impact on scientific production (number of publications), scientific prestige (number of forward citations), and breadth of research activities (interdisciplinarity). The results of a quantitative analysis ...
A set of 12436 papers published in 20 GIScience journals in the period 2000–2014 were analysed to extract publication patterns and trends. This comprehensive scientometric study focuses on multiple aspects: output volume, citations, national output and efficiency (output adjusted with econometric indicators), collaboration, altmetrics (Altmetric score, Twitter mentions, and Mendeley bookmarking...
Co-authorship of papers is very common in most areas of science, and it has increased as the complexity of research has strengthened the need for scientific collaboration. But the fact that papers have more than an author tends to complicate the attribution of merit to individual scientists. I argue that collaboration does not necessarily entail co-authorship, but that in many cases the latter ...
