In this paper, the problem of determining the best schedule for a set of projects has been modeled in the form of a generalized tardiness flowshop (GTF) problem. We develop a set of heuristic algorithms for minimizing the total tardiness of jobs in a GTF problem. In the generalized version of tardiness flowshop problems, a job is considered to be a collection of operations and there is a due da...

In this paper, we propose different local search algorithms to solve a realistic variant of the flowshop problem. The variant considered here is a hybrid flexible flowshop problem with sequence-dependent setup times, and with the objective of minimizing the total tardiness. In this variant of flowshop, stage skipping might occur, i.e., not all stages must be visited by all jobs. This scheduling...

In this paper a generalized version of the tardiness flowshop permutation scheduling problems is considered. A mathematical programming formulation, in the form of a combinatorial optimization model, is also developed. Then a genetic algorithm is developed for solving the proposed problem. The efficiency of the developed algorithm is evaluated through a computational experiment, in which severa...

This paper deals with the non-permutation flowshop problem which means that the job sequences are allowed to be different on machines. The objective function is minimizing the total tardiness. Firstly, three mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) models for non-permutation flowshop problems are described, and then are analyzed and assessed their relative effectiveness. Secondly, two Tabu searc...

The two-stage assembly flowshop scheduling problem is addressed with the objective of minimizing total tardiness. An insertion algorithm, a genetic algorithm, and a hybrid of the insertion and genetic algorithms, are developed for the problem. Conducted computational experiments reveal that the hybrid algorithm significantly outperforms the genetic algorithm while the best performing algorithm ...

This investigation considers a reentrant permutation flowshop scheduling problem whose performance criterion is maximum tardiness. The reentrant flowshop (RFS) is a natural extension of the classical flowshop by allowing a job to visit certain machines more than once. The RFS scheduling problem, in which the job order is the same for each machine in each layer, is called a reentrant permutati...

In this article, we present a study that compares variants of two ACO algorithms designed to tackle a biobjective permutation flowshop scheduling problem where the makespan and the total tardiness are the objectives considered. These two algorithms use respectively one and two pheromone matrices. The analysis of the results gives indications on the choices to adopt when designing an ACO approac...

We address a complex scheduling problem arising in the wood panel industry with the objective of minimizing a quadratic function of job tardiness. The proposed solution strategy, which is based on an effective genetic algorithm, has been coded and implemented within a major Tunisian company, leader in the wood panel manufacturing. Preliminary experimental results indicate significant decrease o...

Scheduling problems involving both earliness and tardiness costs have received significant attention in recent years. This type of problem became important with the advent of the justin-time (JIT) concept, where early or tardy deliveries are highly discouraged. In this work we examine the flowshop scheduling problem with no storage constraints and with blocking inprocess. In this latter environ...

This paper deals with the permutation flowshop scheduling problem time lags constraints to minimize total weighted tardiness criterion by using Branch and Bound algorithm. A new lower bound was developed for problem. The computational experiments indicate that proposed algorithm provides good solution in terms of quality requirements.
